First race. Put in more work over the summer than ever before, kids who I was better than last year beating me even though i put in twice as much work as them over the summer, will I pass them up?

Need more info. What times were you running last season? What times were the kid running last season? Maybe he's just more talented than you...
Your legs could be tired. Try cutting out some distance miles per week. Instead of taking an easy day on Sat or Sun just skip that day. Slogging for 5 miles isn't going to do anything. Just take off. I'm assuming you're in high school.
That's life.

ya, i upped my mileage from 30 to 50 mpw, i have a bigish race this weekend, so I cut out the doubles I was doing, just like 2 3 mile easy runs and am trying to get over 9 hours of sleep every night this week before the race, do you think that'll help? I don't want to cut too many miles, it being early in the season and I want to keep improving for the races later.
The kids that are beating me run 5 mile long runs and never double, putting in 25 mpw, im doing 10 mile long runs and 50 mpw (i know 50 isnt much but its more than 25)
Might want to give the coppers a call, buddy. Physical violence is not something that you should tolerate, especially not from a couple slackers.
A strong base is needed to get the most out of your training but doesn't automatically equate to PRs right off the bat.
Keep up the milage and start upping the quality. By the end of the season, once the workouts kick in and you start to taper, you'll be significantly faster. That is, as long as you aren't already burning out
Could be they are training to race and you are training to train.
Bad mod. Blocking me will not work. Stop deleting threads.

What do you mean by this?

Do you think lowering the mileage before the race would be a good idea? Or should I keep up the mileage for the race and just not worry at this point? (We have like optional doubles that we can do in the morning, the serious runners do them, the less serious don't, ive been doing most of them, but not this week)

It means you might be overtraining and not recovering enough. The other guy has low mileage so he probably is recovering faster than you which makes him improve faster than you. How much faster are you this year vs last year?
You can't ban me. Just stop removing thread. Bad boy!
They are more talented. Take solace in the fact that you could likewise beat a bunch of people who put in 100 miles weeks and have less talent than you.

No. Drop the mileage, by about 1/3rd. Pick up the paces. Keeping the mpw up and adding intensity generally doesn't work out well.
What were your paces at a 50mpw? What were your race paces last year?
Finally concentrate on you and your times/workouts.
I ran 17:45 last year, and was hoping to be by 16:30-17 this year, but I haven't raced well... I ran a 19!
My workouts go really well- and my races poorly...
Paces are around 7:30 to 8 min pace, i was doing 7 min pace for easy runs, but decided that was too fast for where I am...
Tempos- 6:20ish

So you increased your mileage and your time slowed to 19? Is it not obvious that you are probably doing too much mileage? Does the other guy running half as much but running better than you not reinforce that? Do what he does for a couple weeks and see what happens.
lol now thinking about it yes that seems obvious, also when I ran that (a week and a half ago) I was doing all my easy runs at 7 min pace with guys running 16-17 min 5ks, so I think that contributed to it, so I slowed down my easy runs to guys running around 18-19, so like 8 min pace, no faster than 7:30
The other kid is more genetically gifted.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
