So Mo Farah will be toeing the line again in the very near future, taking part in the Great North Run half marathon on September 11th. He won the race last year over the last 400 meters.
My question is this: How in the world can Farah stay motivated for this race having just picked up two gold medals in Rio? Can you imagine having to do a speed workout the week after blowing away the entire world, not once but twice?
Obviously Farah will be getting a huge paycheck to run (I give him credit for maximizing his prime years), but wouldn't it be awful to lose so close to winning back-to-back gold medals? There's something to be said for your last race being the one that sticks out in your memory the most, even if you've run the two best races of your life just beforehand. A second or third place finish for Farah could ultimately mean a bad taste in his mouth as he heads into his off season. So in other words, he can't let his guard down just yet.
