It doesn't work that way, dummy.

There is large % of NBA players that have dads that were in the league.
Then of course, the guy that you mentioned, has a 2x Olympian.
With that said, it would be a shame to waste a Felix/Rupp child on the steeplechase.
It is also clearly not true that a "large % of NBA players have dads in the league." It is no more than 5%.
Depends on your definition of large. The chances of making the NBA are 1/xx millions. Having 5-6% of ~420 players annually come from a subset of 5 - 10,000 former players is significant in terms of explaining my point - that these guys got their athleticism from their dad (most likely).
A quick check:

I looked up the mothers of 3 on that list from this year's NBA Finals. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson's mothers were multi-sport athletes who played in college (both D1). Kevin Love's mom won the World Ironman Championship. I'm not disputing your point (but btw odds of making the NBA are better than 1 in a million in this country so check that), but there is a ton of athletic talent on some of their moms' sides as well. Not surprising that athletes marry and have kids with other athletes, look at Christian McCaffrey's family.

That was Kevin Love's aunt, not his mom.

No. The training makes them look so emaciated that it limits their selection of females to ones who do not arouse them.
Most of them would be duds, but one one them would outkick Mo.

It takes generations for the right combination of genes to produce a gifted person.
Doesn't this go without saying? Everyone is a product of generations.

Why did neither of Joe Montana's sons make it as quarterbacks, even playing for the best high school and college programs? Joes's wife is healthy, intelligent, tall, well formed body. Hmm, something must be missing from her genes. Think about it, you'll figure it out someday.
The first man under 27 min for track 10k married a woman that took
a silver in the Olympic marathon. They had a girl. As far as I know,
she does not run.
I take that back. She may have run a 5k in Queensland in 31:40
Mitochondrial DNA only comes from the mother. Zero chance the kid will be a decent distance runner.
According to wiki in the entire history of the NBA/NBL there have only been 71 father/son combos to play in the NBA.

For any given athletic or intellectual talent that can be quantitatively measured offspring are on average halfway between the mean of the parents and the population mean.
IQ 140 dad + 120 mom = 115 kid
If grandparents, great grandparents etc average higher than the population, bump up the number a tad, but regression to the mean is the rule.

Good sprinter? Good distance runner? Good mid-D? What would that genetic combo be like?
His ears, her lips...
