lol
I'd also be fine with abandoning the rerun if China would take Gatlin, Gay, L Merritt, Rodgers and Mitchell off our hands.

this is just stupid
I agree. Drop the baton and you are done. Ridiculous to allow a redo.
FFS, I've seen flawless exchanges in high school.
I agree the US team should get another chance to qualify for the final but it seems the rule book has gone out of the window on the Athletics. Anyone?

They can keep our swimmers.

Felix is screaming before any minor contact is made because it has already gone horribly wrong.
The Chinese team will be robbed of their place in the final. What an embarrassing medal this could be for the US.

This is wrong. You don't go to the clock to separate, you look at the photo finish if they are in the same heat. You go to the clock to compare different heats. I'm pissed about this because I have been defending Ato most of these Olympics.
But it would be interesting if USA ran 42.70, because I'm not sure if you can use the thousandths place for different heats at different times of days.

Bumping Canada and/or China would create another uproar if the US team is able to beat their time. We have a couple of options here:
1. Find another track with 9 lanes and run the event there
2. Build another lane onto the Oly stadium track
3. Have 4 teams start on one end of the track, and 5 on the other end. 2 finishing lines.
4. Have Canada and China run in the same lane since they have identical times.
I like option 3. Seriously, I don't see why this couldn't work.

Shouldn't hey have had Abby do a re run of her 5000 to see if she could beat the best q time to make the final?
Rules say you can either advance or re-race

Obvious contact on the part of the Brazilian.
Not sure which video you're watching.

Agree 100%. We'll also send Lochte back.
The Brazilian was out of place, but she did not cause the baton problems. I am a United States Citizen of western European ancestry.

LOL, Ato's been off his game today.
I think the US will have to run faster than 42.70. If they run 42.70, China is in and the US is out. That's how I read it from the IAAF's tweet

That video doesn't should anything of the kind. She clearly reacts to the contact and they were in fine position to qualify without the drop.
doesn't *show* ...
by going to the thousandth, he obviously meant they used the FinishLynx to determine their times.
A better modification of 3 would be to have the teams start at the same start/finish and run opposite ways around the track, the carnage at 200 and finish would be great viewing
This is a great idea. Nine teams enter one team leaves

I've always wanted to see a re-run of a race.
Does this track have 9 lanes?
Let's make this fun and exciting...
Just put the US in the finals with the other teams and make it a waterfall start!
who wants to join me at 7 for a virtual 4x100 race with the women's team?
I'll take the second turn
It seems Lochte and co need some kind of psycholgical help.
Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that Felix shouldn't even be on the team and that she was included just for her legacy. It's not the first time that's happened. Jesse Owens was included in 1936 even though the U.S. brought two other sprinters and could have still won easily. The coaches wanted Jesse to get four medals.
Also in 1936, Germany dropped the baton in the final, securing the underdog U.S. team the gold.
