I'm not necessarily proud of my thoughts on Meb, but here they are:
He's from Eritrea, who some have called the running capital of the world, and lived there until 12 years of age. I see him as a full U.S. citizen, but also as obtaining his running foundation from outside the states. Granted he obviously developed here, but he runs like a Kenyan and spent almost half his life in Eritrea. I think his un-American Eritrean orignal habitat has a lot to do with his running talent and accomplishments.
That's why I do not get excited for him as for other U.S. runners. I don't see Meb's accomplishents, even in representing our country, as being a reflection of the U.S., but instead of his original heritage.
