Has anyone done heroin?

I can answer this somewhat. You can totally hold a job while being addicted which is part of the problem of heroin. There are lots of people who are junkies and you w never know that they were. People from all walks of life. Anyway you can get by on a bundle a day if you're really really stretching your money so that's like $20 but most addicts will be doing at least two bundles a day which would be $40/day. There's lots of different slang words for what a bundle is etc. In the Philly area a bundle is 10 bags but they give you two for free so you get 12 bags and that's $20. Don't let the term "bag" confuse you. There's something like .1g of dope in a bag. So anyway a normal functioning addict will do about two bundles a day but that is just so they don't get sick. They are barely even getting high. I'm not joking. They're only doing that so that they don't go into withdrawal. So they're essentially spending $40 a day just to not get sick because withdrawal from dope is a killer.

There was a misguided 'push' of sorts to address what was thought to be an under prescribing of meds for pain, resulting in more opiates being prescribed. Once addicted, many addicts turn to heroin because it can be cheaper. The taliban allowing Afghan's to once again produce opium has also increased the supply of cheap heroin.

Not all opiate users will become addicted, there is a predisposition to it that may not be discovered until a drug is used, as seems to be indicated by some of the posts in this thread - "did nothing for me" ... " I knew right away" ... etc.

Most detox & 12 steps addiction treatment programs are failures, with little statistics on their efficacy. Evidence based medical treatment for addiction is gaining traction, which should help in dealing with this rising tsunami.

I also wanted to say to the guy who was addicted - I too have become much less judgmental. When I was young and crushing every college admission test, I thought that anyone who struggled in life just needed to get it together and develop some work ethic. Fast forward five years when I am barely functioning and I no longer see it that way. One of the positive things that can come out of struggles with addiction/mental health.

And by the way, some people can totally hold down a job as a hardcore alcoholic or drug addict. Other people behave too erratically or simply stop caring enough to fulfill their duties. Really depends on the person.

Yes, different things are addictive to different people. I personally found IV coke more addictive than heroin, although if I had to choose spending the rest of my life on one versus the other, it'd probably be heroin, because it's easier to function and it basically just acts like an antidepressant.

I can imagine not liking heroin if I'd tried it before being experienced with other opiates. It's definitely a lot stronger than most opiates, so it's very easy to get sick, like what happened to you. I'd imagine you would be had a better experience if you took a lower dose.

Drugs are definitely expensive, but most people switch to heroin because it's a lot cheaper than other opiates. Most people can't afford it long-term, which is when bad things tend to happen like stealing or selling drugs or whatever.

I personally could hold a job on it. I probably spent somewhere around $100/day on it, although that would vary wildly and went up to more than that when buying coke in addition to heroin. But I did have an office job during this period, although I was eventually fired, but that was for coming in late so often, which could've been avoided. Otherwise I think I would've kept working to that job, at least until I got caught using or something. I definitely lived paycheck to paycheck. I'm sure some people spend a lot more. Undoubtedly it helped that I was upper-middle class, so I could get at least a decent enough job to afford to be able to use. A lot of the other people I was around didn't have that advantage.

Agreed with all this.

And the longer I used, the sloppier I got with hiding it at work. Every time I would relapse, I would do more erratic and reckless things. Especially with shooting coke, since, unlike heroin, it has such a short-lasting high, so you need to keep injecting every 10-15 minutes. It's a nightmare.

I remain judgemental. I don't care if you have PTSD or whatever, you know it's super addictive, so don't try it once.

We should all do what we can to make heroin addicts feel better about their drug habits. Its the least we can do to support them.

I taken a mild opiate and have gotten a high that I felt through out my body. Literally I felt like my toes were relaxed up to my eye brows and felt an inner bliss. This was from a mild back pill so imagine this by the multiple of ten.

I've snorted it before. My friend had bought coke and it didn't look right so he just did a small bump. When I saw he was fine I did the same. For the next 20 minutes I felt amazing, better than I ever have before. As soon as I got up to walk around I couldn't stand up straight. Both of us ended up sweating profusely and vomiting for the next hour. I can't understand how anyone would try that more than once. It was great at first but I have never been more sick in my life. I'll stick to booze from here on out.

Moral of the story, don't go to west Africa and try any drugs. Its probably not what you think it is.
