nice job. that's him winning? Is that Merber with the headband behind him?
That's very close to the Olympic standard (roughly 3:53 mile, which would be a solid pr, I think). Do this year's performances count for next year's World standard?
Yes and Yes. I believe that the window for 2017 world champs opens later in 2016.

Great run for Eric. I know he wanted something like that at the trials. Hope he keeps shaving the seconds offs, seems like a personable guy.
Avila, Merber, Gregorek, Alexander in a 1 thru 4 sweep!
Three out of four from NJNY (Merber, Colby, Gregorek)
Three out of four from Hoka (Avila, Merber, Colby)
2017 Worlds standard window opened May 1 (Payton Jordan)
Anyone have a better video? That facebook link is terrible in quality.
3:36.20 was the Olympics entry standard. I wouldn't be surprised if they eased the entry standard for 2017 Worlds a bit because it has been hard for quite a few athletes to reach. Anyway, he is so close. Maybe now he can get into a faster race and draft to 3:34-5.

They will slow the 1500 standard down a few tenths next year because they didn't have enough runners hit the 3:36.20 standard worldwide to fill the Olympic field. They only had 40 athletes worldwide hit it and they need 45 to fill the field.
So more than likely the USA will have additional qualifiers for next year's World's (standard wise) based on missing the standard by a fraction this year.
Clayton Murphy 3:36.23
Colby Alexander 3:36.26
Eric Avila 3:36.37
