Not a great sign. Hope he can make it to the semis in Rio.

He will be eliminated in the first round of Rio. Waste of a spot, IMO.
Perfectly timed peak and race at OTs!
50% of athletes run a stinker after the flights to get to Europe from the West Coast...
(No joking) Constipation and dehydration and exhaustion are serious issues, as well as stiff legs. A guy as tall as Jock. Ouch.

Somebody else shouldve earned it then....
Not a great sign, indeed. He barely clawed his way through the rounds at U.S. Trials and backed it up with this clunker. Jock is the kind of runner who is prone to pop a big race at any given moment, but doesn't exhibit the consistency of a medal contender. That's what separates a good 800 runner from an average one.
Jock led Abda by 2 sec. the first lap but they swapped by the finish.

This is what happens when you spend way too much time celebrating making the Olympic team at Taylor's in downtown Eugene.
Makes a lot of sense.
He had a huge UP at the trials with making the team and then he had international travel to get to this meet. I highly doubt he was READY for this race.
If he (and Rowland) can manage the peak as they did at the trials then he'll get into the semis. I highly doubt he'll do much past that, but give the guy a break. In March/April this same board was writing him off after some very bad performances, but he came through when it counted and made the team.
I would not be worried one iota by this race. First race off the plane is usually a bad one and he is coming off of the Trials' disruption in training. Good to see him mixing it up in Europe and I bet the next one will be three seconds faster.
good point. happens all of the time, even to the studs

Same agent that botched Leer's contract has every one of their athletes over in Europe already trying to get some more money from them.

Exactly. Centro always has a clunker off the plane. It's become almost comical.
I just like that the board was butthurt not to have called Jock making the team (nobody did; you can look) and is now gleefully declaring it a "wasted spot."
Guess what? If some "worthy" runner couldn't beat Jock on the day, their "consistency" may not be so great themselves.

Symmonds would have qualified easily, but he is not going to bow down to the Nike sleaze bags that run the USATF.
It may seem like we would be sending a better team if Nick was running in Rio, but this is the start of a revolution that will lead to lots of money for runners!
Please consider joining the fight that companies like Brooks have started to take money from the rich fat cats and give it back to the runners who beat their souls on the track.
If you see someone wearing Nike on the street, tell them straight up: "if you support Nike, then you are supporting Charles Jock over Symmonds, and that is not fair and also a really bad idea."

Seems reminiscent of Christian Smith's miracle dive to snag #3 from KD and subsequent performance in Beijing:
ROUND 1
RANK ATHLETE RESULT NOTES
1.Amine LAALOU MAR 1:47.86 Qualified
2.Abraham CHEPKIRWOK UGA 1:47.93 Qualified
3.Jakub HOLUSA CZE 1:48.19
4.Christian SMITH USA 1:48.20
Also he ran almost the entire race on the outside....which was not a help.
He was wasted at the end no doubt, but he also clearly gave up. He could have run a faster time than what he ended up with but I don't think 1:46/1:47 was on his mind and once he fell apart he stopped trying.
It's one race. Never smart to judge on one race.

Shouldn't you be on the Caster S. appreciation thread for marginalized losers?
Jock is not half the runner he was at college. Yes he made the Olympics, but I think that is more a result of other athletes performing below par. He was on track to be a 1.42/43 guy out of college but training with OTC has ruined him. I'd love to see how his program now compares with his college program. I suspect a lot more aerobic work, tempos etc and all that stuff that drains the life out of a speed based 800 runner if done at the expense of regular high intense training. He's too far gone into the program and will never get back to what he could have run under a more speed printed program. First round at the Olympics for sure.

Considering how many Americans have run 1:42, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Not to mention that one of those 1:42 guys was a member of OTC.
