Who is gonna lead heat 2?
Who is gonna lead heat 2?
Good question....those are all sit and kickers. It's rare but I'm guessing Centro will have to do the honors because no one else is likely to take it out at an honest pace.

Heat 2 has the top 4 from last year, plus Wheating and Ulrey who have made US teams in the past.
Heat 1 doesn't have anyone who has ever made a US team or even threatened to.
Also, I noticed in the prelims that the 5 runners with Olympic standards were divided in heats 2 and 3, while none were in heat 1.
Correction: Heat #2 has the top 5 from last year. And 4 of the 5 with the standard.
If you are in heat #1, you have a gift from God. You have no one in the heat plus the noted front-runner in Yorks so you might get the two time qualifiers.
My money is on Yorks. Engels will prolly get 2nd since he's been running well. They will STILL need to keep the pace "honest" as others have stated, or heat 2 will get the time quals. Should be interesting either way.
So is Engels hair/mustache ironic or is it kind of really his style. I mean the guy is from Fayettenam and he goes to Ole Miss, so he might legitimately think that is a cool style.

USATF is following their rules which have been in place for at least the past four years. The rule states for events up to 400 seeding in heats after the first is based on place. For longer events seeding is based on best performance in the calendar year including times run in the prelims. Remember Wheating didn't even meet the qualifying time but was accepted to fill the field.
I want to know how we can blame this on Nike? Everything else wrong at the championships is their fault...
might not be a bad idea for some of the borderline guys in heat 1 to make it quick and try to knock out the standard. Competition is lower, so the risk of blowing up is minimized.
He's from the country club school in Winston-Salem.
I wouldn't be surprised if the time qualifiers come from heat 1.
So you'd have 7 from heat 1 and 5 from heat 2 in the finals.
Who would take it out in heat 2?
Not Robby Andrews.
Wheating isn't going to take it out.
Centro probably wouldn't waste his energy and is confident hanging back for at least two laps.
Manzano? - no way
Blankenship - He lead in the prelims but at a slow pace. He doesn't want to rabbit these guys
You think any of the lessor runners would want to take it out with those five on his back and hope to hang on for top 7?
Are the heat two runners going to learn heat #1 7th place time and try to all beat it?
Everyone in both heats will run for top 5 and luck will determine the q's, as usual.
Time qualifying should be only for sprinters.
It just isn't relevant to performance in a tactical 1500.

well we know Ciaran Olionarrd reads Lets run. He just tweeted about this
McNamara will lead some of the 1500 heat 2.
I feel the same as you. It seems that often the more-stacked heat in scenarios like this often end up being more tactical.
However, Dusty Solis is in Heat 2 and he set the pace in the fastest prelim yesterday, so there's still some folks who might do the work.

Everything in Heat 2 obv depends on what happens in Heat 1. My guess is Heat 1 goes out honest. They have to. They're not stupid. Those runners have looked at both heats and see the same thing we do. On paper they know that their best chance is to make Heat 1 a real barn burner.
IF that happens, I would think Centro would take out Heat 2. I know you're saying this guy won't and this guy won't take it out. Reality is SOMEONE will be in the lead once the race starts. SOMEONE will take it out. Given heat 1's likelihood of being fast paced, Centro will take it out to ensure there are no silly scew-ups with a slow pace in heat 2.
Also there's no way in he** that Jordan McNamara takes out the lead in Heat 2. Not happening.

Not sure why I thought he was from Fayetteville. My bad. Just checked his profile and he went to Reagan, which is a public school. Is that a nicer public school? By your post I thought you meant Forsyth Country Day. Please don't take away from his working class persona. Please. Don't take that from me.
Anyway, I am rooting for him because I like him.

No, I am not him. I am from NC and just like his look. I do not know anything about him though.
