What does he know?!?
What does he know?!?
He was Aden's whistleblower.
David Torrence has a 5-step plan for making the Olympic 1500m final and finishing dead last:
1. Become Peruvian or Bolivian or whatever
2. "feel something" and don't post about it on Twitter (element of surprise, you know.)
3. Train pet mosquitoes to target African athletes in Rio.
4. Advance from heats after being "impeded" by some clumsy runner.
5. I don't know...do some 400m repeats.
He could also just know who tipped off the police, he doesn't have to have been the person who did it.
I love the small diss he made to the people who tries to get the NOP in trouble. Don't be dramatic about, report it and keep it quiet.

LOL
But seriously, Torrence FTW

No, it was two Spanish athletes. Who and how it came about will soon come to light.
Who is Torrence's agent?
I have no ties to any pro runner -- including David T. -- but I am not sure that I would take this as a slam on those who have raised questions about NOP in public.
According to the recent ESPN story on whistleblowers (focusing on Goucher and Shirley), the pro publica piece, etc., the Gouchers went to USADA in 2012 or so -- long before saying anything in public. This might explain why NOP athletes were tested so frequently from 2012 onward. Kara says that they went public to encourage others to speak up. Whether you believe the Gouchers or not (about what they saw, their motivations for coming forward, etc.) I can believe that people who want a future in the sport might be reluctant to come forward with accusations involving Nike, Salazar, and NOP. Having spent time as a government prosecutor (focusing on white collar crime and financial fraud), it is hard to get witnesses to come forward. Fear of retribution can be significant. At some point, it's less about surprise (surely NOP knew it was under the microscope by the time the pro publica piece came out, given the volume of testing that I recall being reported), and more about making sure that you have identified all possible sources of information.
To my mind, David T's comments speak to the Sheila Reid-type tweets from a few weeks ago -- the one where she said I saw an agent/coach object to his athlete's testing. The coach/athlete involved in that scenario now understand that they are probably subject to scrutiny. This makes it less likely that they can be caught in the sort of raid that appears to have occurred with Aden and his athletes.
recall that he implied something in that interview when he said that he could not understand how they could do that intensity over and over again.
DT did a STING OPERATION and joined the group only to EXPOSE THEM!!!!

He went undercover as a mysterious Peruvian athlete
Maybe so but not everything is about NOP/ bbc. I took it as a general comment to be smart about fighting cheating. As the other poster noted, Goucher, etc. did go to USADA first. I believe that USADA tests NOP more than anyone in the years since. The issue with the pro-publica reportwas that, when they went public, the claims were rebutted and there was no real response. They should have expected that and been prepared to respond. The testosterone test was the big thing to come out of the whole story but apparently that was disclosed and it's not clear if there can be any action. Whether you believe the stated rationale or not is another matter. Here we are looking at EPO syringes at a training camp. So this looks pretty damning. If it affects an NOP runner, it would be Farah because he runs with those athletes in Erhiopia, etc. It will be interesting to see what Farah has to say.

You forget that they all DID go to USADA....in 2013. And nothing happened.
Much respect to him. Think of all the guys who'd have done nothing.
probably because NOP wasn't doing anything against the rules..
Farah won't say anything about this, try to act like he knows nothing about all of this.

Torrence certainly may have provided some info, but I don't necessarily read this as him saying he is the main snitch. I think what he's saying is catching people with an element of surprise is what works.
