Just listing famous people isn't enough. Throw in some context, people. It makes the thread better. Just sayin.

And what else?? Is there a story behind these names? No context. Boring. Zzzzzzzzz.......
Matt Groening
Alberto Salazar
Matt actually made a drawing for me in my comic book "Dog Boy #7" and wrote "I dig Dog Boy". Have seen him off and on over the years I went to the San Diego con, many mutual friends. Down to earth super star.
Al, ran in the same league in high school. I was running 4:30 miles when he was doing 9:00 over 2-miles. He was tough, scary, inspiring. He raised the level of all the distance running in the dual county league, bunches of guys in the 9:20s in the mid 70s, of course no one could touch him.
Just from a month in 1969:
Spiro T. Agnew, then Vice President (wanna shake the hand that shook the hand?)
Alan Keyes, current crazy politico/commentator (at the time he was a perfectly normal/functional human being)

Wineturtle's story is also one of the top ones. The best one could be the waiter, who's friend banged all those actresses.
Name those actresses, little guy, and you win this thread hands down. This brings me to another topic. How many of you guys had sex with a chick who had sex with a celebrity? That could be a good topic.
Not sure I would name them. Bro code.
And some of them seemed to turn out pretty classy in the end. I will say he enjoyed watching: the Fall Guy, ET, and Star Wars. It was long ago. His son is pretty much doing the same thing in LA now except we think he charges $ instead of a good time. No perceivable job that equates to his lifestyle. The world is not a pretty place.
As for the other topic one old girlfriend was a waitress in the Viper Room. I wasn't the love of her life.
In probably 2002, i was at a soccer match and after the match was talking with a few other guys I knew. As I started to walk towards the aisle to leave, someone on the field asked me if I enjoyed the match and i made a comment of something like "Yeah its always nice when you win". He kinda laughed and said something about especially given their recent form and results. We kept talking about some random stuff and I mentioned I should get going because I had a decent drive ahead of me to get home (it was already about 10pm and I haf about a 1.5 hiur drive). He asked where I was from and when I told him his eyes lit up and he got excited. He started telling me how he played in a bunch youth tournaments there as a kid and used to vacation there with his family. Total converation was probably 15 minutes.
I jokingly asked him that if he was ever back in the area, we should hang out. He laughed and agreed. We exchanged numbers. Still text occassionally and have hung out a few times
The guys name? Ben Olsen. Most wel known for playing in the 2006 World Cup. Had no idea who he was when I was talking to him.
Most famous person met recently? Probably Lin Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame. Was right next to him crossing the street. Wife nudged me and I was like "what?" To her. She whispered in my ear that it was Lin Manuel Miranda from Hamilton right next to me. Light changed and at this point we are walking right next to him. We go to cross the next street and some lady just satrys practically screaming "Ohmygod Lin Manuel! Lin Manuel Miranda!!". He looked unbelievably pissed and uncomfortable. Probably didnt help he was stuck waiting to cross the street and couldnt go anywhere to avoid it. Light turns and he walks out of there pretty fast. Wife and I continue on our way to wait for friends at a coffee shop. No more than 3 minutes go by and in he comes. As he is standing there, i walk up and say "ohmygod! Ohmygod! Its Lin Manuel! Its Lin Manuel Mirands". He starts cracking up laughing since this just happened like 10 minutes before at most. I told him how uncomfortable he looked at that moment and we just started joking about random stuff. Super nice guy.
In chronological order:
1) Jesse Owens told me (a 17 year old) I was a very fine athlete. I have it in writing. Who am I to disagree with Owen's expert opinion?
2) Martin Lawrence was one of the kids at a swimming pool I managed in the Summer during college.
OK, that's two.
...but wait, there's more:
3) Alex Comfort (The Joy of Sex) was a colleague of my college advisor. Both were on the board of some sort of international gerontology society. I just happened to be in the office to check on my grades.
4) I was on Fifth Avenue and 96th during the NYCM about 10 years ago with a friend when Katie Couric and a girlfriend of hers walked up to me and started a casual conversation. With furtive glances at each other, my friend quietly mumbled, "Is that who I think it is?" I mumbled back, "Yeah it is." Couric ask me if I knew who was winning the woman's race. I said, "I don't know, but I'll put my best people on it." So I called Keith Dowling, who I knew was at the finishline. I said, "Keith, I'm over at Fifth Avenue and a friend of mine is really excited about the women's race, could you give her a report?" Handing my phone to her, "Here she is, her name is Katie."
5) I met comedian Bobby Moynihan a few years ago. I asked him, "How the heck does one become a comedian? I mean, it's not as though there is a school for it or anything." He explained to me that ever since he was a child he always wanted to be on Saturday Night Live. I said, "and now you are! There's not many people who can say that!" He continued, "When I was a kid I knew everything about every comedian. I was a student of comedy."
Being that he was a student of the craft I thought I'd give him a little historical anecdote that he'd appreciate:
It was late July of 1982 and a group of us (including Randy Thomas and Mike Roche) decided to check out amateur night at Ding Ho, a Chinese restaurant/ Comedy club in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The MC was Lenny Clarke and show had about 10-12 slots with maybe 2-3 of them local working comedians, the rest of them giving stand up their best shot. One of them happened to be Steven Wright, whose paraprosdokian wit turned out to be a huge hit with the crowd. It didn't go unnoticed, as that was the night that a Tonight Show producer happened to be in the crowd, and within a week Wright was performing with Johnny Carson on national television. That performance launched Wright's career and he rest is history.
Moynihan listened intently, and soaked the story in.
"I was seven years old then, " he said.
"Holy heck, when you were born I was already banging thirty-nine year olds!" He laughed, and I continued my thought, "You were born in 1975, right?"
"No 1977"
"....well, It's a good thing you're a fuking comedian, because you math isn't worth sh1t!"
Hugh Hefner and Will Ferrell
Jenna Jemeson..she is tiny, and not all that attractive off screen . looks much older than her age. Was pleasant to us this in Vegas, so keep it to yourself.
Charles Nelson Reilly, the actor in. Jupiter beach Fla. Bar near his Friend Burt Reynolds house. We talked about boats , he was in Coast Guard auxilliary (basically volunteers) and he was wearing the cap. He sweated profusely and had been imbibing heavily, was talkative but kinda weird. Who knew he was gay, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Bill and Chelsea Clinton. Same time.

If 99.99% of the people in this country and if 100% of the people across the world have no idea who these people are, they aren't famous. Seriously do you think if any of these 3 were standing in the middle of a busy airport for an entire day, that anyone would even recognize them? The answer is no.
The late, beloved Elliott Lounge in Brrokline, MA was always a good spot to meet and greet visiting notable runners, as Tommy Leonard held court. One evening, I enjoyed a dram of beverage with the likes of Bill Rodgers, Uta Pippig, some Kiwi runners ,Red Sox pitcher Bill Spaceman Lee, and I believe Kevin Bacon was lurking in the corner on a bar stool.
The secret to meeting and actually conversing with celebs etc is don't act like a fan, be cool, and pretend you don't know who they are, then ask why theyre in town and what theyre up to.yes, some are dicks and full of themselves, but many can be as interested in you as you are in them, especially if you have a shared interest.

I wanna say that Charles Nelson Reilly was doing game shows like the Hollywood Squares back in the 70's. He must be a very old fart today.
Steve Jobs. In the early 90's, he was well known, and probably worth a few hundred million, but not "famous famous" as he would become . He would attend his daughter's high school functions. I was seeing a woman whose child was a school friend of the daughter and was in the conversational circle a few times. Nicer in that context than he was in the office (by reputation).
Pete Rozelle and Paul Tagliabue. In the 80's, worked at the law firm that had the NFL as client (where "Tags" was a partner). Rozelle would come by from time to time.
Running: Shorter and Rodgers, both after races, both very pleasant.
used to work at a ski hill in a resort town. There was a celebrity ski day where i met (and made salad for!) Robin williams, Alicia Silverstone, Peirce Brosnon, and Alec Baldwin. A bunch of middle aged women came out just to see brosnon and the main talk of the day was how bad he looked in person
