Stevie Wonder - 'They Won't Go When I Go'
If you prefer live stuff, check out the great Nina Simone covering '70s mother-lode sap 'Feelings' in front of a dull, flat and unresponsive Swiss audience. Breathtaking!

Nina also performed the best version of 'After You've Gone'.
Today was a bit of a rough one for me but I'll have a smile on my face nonetheless.
Burton Cummings puts a whole world of energy into this one, particularly from 2:55 on:
But number one for conveying emotion in a song, of course, has to be Freddie Mercury.
Oops, forgot the chicks. How about some Dusty Springfield?
I like the high-energy ones, and they don't get more emotionally powerful than Laura Nyro - a truly astonishing talent as both a singer and a songwriter.
Bonus Laura Nyro!
Yes, Laura Nyro wrote this ... and the previous one and Stoned Soul Picnic and Wedding Bell Blues. I forgot about Simone. I mentioned Janis Joplin but Simone's range is incredible. Her emotion comes through whether she's loud, soft, grits her teeth or stamps her foot.

James Brown
The video helps with expressing the emotion on this one, but ol' Adam can sure make you feel uplifted and depressed at the same time in many of his songs. Never could decide whether he wanted that jacket on or off, could he?
