What is the lowest a day should be when starting doubles, other than preworkout shakeout jogs?
4 miles? 5 miles? 6 miles?
(4 and 6, 5 and 6 or 7, 6 and 7 or 8.)

Start doubles anytime but I would say minimum 10 miles per day
I'd say minimum of 4/4 double

This is the absolute minimum I would recommend too. 4/6 is more of a standard though.
What is your age?
What is your current level of fitness?
Injury history?
I start all of my kids that are interested with 30min and 30min. Stressing that they keep it easy.
Probably ends up being around 4 and 4 or more.
Eventually they graduate to 30 min and X
Never had someone hit Malmo status but 30 and x works out well.

I do a 3 and 5 double and I can run 6 miles @ 430/mile.
Age: 20
Level of fitness: Below Average (low 17s)
Some injury history and currently taking a few weeks off from minor shin problems and general soreness.
if you want to get really good take a few years to build up to eventually doing 10/10 Mon-Sat and 20 on Sunday. Throw in a couple workouts each week and 20-30 races a year and you'll run some big PBs.
