Which shoe do you prefer, the Elites or Pegasus?
???
The Elite has a little firmer ride and a nominal medial post. I prefer the Elite, as I am more used to a relatively light shoe with a dual density post midsole.
I actually run in both currently. I would say the Elites are firmer, the Pegasus's more cushioned. The Elite's are also narrower. I do my longer runs in the pegasus's and my faster workouts in the elites, as I feel the elite's are a bit more lightweight. I really like both of them, I would try them both on if you haven't because I don't know if I could pick between the two.
Actually I sort of wear both as well. I say sort of as I still get Peg 2000s from the Nike ID website partly because they do narrow width Pegs there (both on and off road versions) and as the previous guy said the Elites are narrower as standard.
I would say the Elites seem a bit more cushioned than my last Peg 2000 but then again the ones from the ID website do seem a bit stiffer than the ones I used to get from shops when they were "current".
Out of interest is the Peg 2004 more like the 2000 than the 2002 version? I got one pair of the 2002 but did not like them half as much as the 2000 hence in part visits to the Nike ID website - that is until found the Elites.

The 2004 model is softer than the 2002 model but just a bit firmer than the 2000. It is still a bit roomer in the toe box than the 2000 model. It would definetly be worth your while to go by and try it out. Word of caution: the zoom elites have a pretty good contrast between the cushioning of the medial post and the lateral heel. I have videoed several runners who had neutral gait cycle and while they liked the zoom elites we did notice that it would cause them to supinate a little more than they normally would. Over an extended period of training them this can cause excessive tightness of the peroneal muscles. Good luck!

Thanks for info on the 2004s. I might well go and try on a pair as am in need of a new pair of something. Then again I always am!
Excuse my ignorance but what/where are the "peroneal muscles" ???
informed runner, you said that the elites caused supination, would that by cahnce be good for an overpronater?
Im not great with those words, but i have a flat arch, so i think that means that i overpronate.

I work at a running shoe store, and probably 90% of the people that walk through the door don't have any idea what pieces and devices that are sandwiched between their running shoes are and most importantly how it will effect their bodies. Most running shoe websites do a pretty good job explaining the basics of body type/foot type but, unless you work at a shoe store and see how much of the shoes are just marketing gimics you can't have the full perspective. I will try to break down the components of both the zoom elite vs air pegasus as best I can and try to explain again how it will effect your foot motion. The air zoom elite has a duel density medial post. This medial post is actually the same foam as the rest of the midsole except that it is atleast twice the density and it is colored grey in order to distinquish it from the neutral cushioning shoes ie(pegasus). That medial post is there for the single purpose of limiting the inward roll of the individual wearing the shoe. So here is the downside, most average runners who wear this shoe do not have a problem which would require the medial post. So as the shoe breaks down after 100mi,200mi,300mi plus the foam begins to compress and flaten. Guess which foam flatens first? the lateral side because it is made of a soft foam and the medial side is twice the density. So the longer one wears the shoe the more they are putting their body weight on the lateral portion of their foot which is not the way the foot is intented to absorb shock. Does that help you understand?

The peroneus longus and the Tibialis anterior run alongside the outside of the knee and attach down at the ankle. If these muscles become overly tight it can pull on the ankle an cause minor to major ankle pain.
On nike ID for the peg 2000, you can either have the medial post or you can order without it. I am thinking about ordering the pegasus 2000s. Should i order them with or without the medial post?
Sorry to ask so many questions. I have never really thought about buying shoes, i usually just bought one that looked cool so im not very familiar with any vocubaulary.
Thanks for your help.
Go with the nuetral cushioning version. (without the medial post)

i have a question about "air" midsoles. do they not breakdown - say in the peg 2004?
thanks,
