The St. Vrain New Balance Invitational, a high school track meet with several elite athlete sections (and prize money) being held in Longmont, Colorado on Friday, May 13th, is ultimately hoping to be the site of the first sub-4 minute mile in Colorado. Three years ago at the meet, Rory Fraser from England (and the University of New Mexico) ran 4:03.99 breaking Ted Castaneda's Colorado soil mile record from 1976 of 4:04.76. Last year, Tabor Stevens (recently graduated from Adams State) ran 4:01.27 at the Jack Harris Elite Mile in La Junta at the Tiger Relays. (Altitude - 4078')
The St. Vrain Meet will pay $6000 for a new Colorado Soil Record. If the winner fails to break the current record held by Mr. Stevens, he will receive $250, and the pot will continue to grow for next year. Please contact Mark Roberts with your credentials at:
