Yea bruh, definitely Ghost.

You're better off without a woman of low character like that anyway. And when you step back and really examine it, I'll bet you'll find that you weren't really that crazy about her and that she was, at best, mediocre in the sack so move on and don't contact her.
The out of office reply would be classic.
You gotta totally ignore her now.
Send her a couple dozen mylar balloons and a 6 foot Teddy bear at work with a card that says, 'I put the rest of your junk on the curb. Viva'

Because he isn't buff?
Well done.
As for the OP, the email method saves both of you from wasting time. Ideally, if you can stomach it, I'd ask for honest feedback about how you could have improved. In my situation, getting that *genuine* feedback (no matter how painful it was to hear it) was critical to my next relationship (going on 11 years).
Breaking News:
The Pity Train has just derailed at the intersection of Suck It Up and Move On and crashed into We All Have Problems, before coming to a complete stop at Get the F-Over It. Any complaints should be forwarded to 1-800-waa-waaa.
The wildest example that I know of was when a friend of mine tried to commit suicide and wound up in the hospital for several weeks.
Then after working for 2 months he married the love of his life, they moved to California and have been together for more than ten years!
Another friend was with his girlfriend in a dating/living together relationship for about 4 years or so. She broke it off for about two years. He dated others and she didn't like it! Now they have been married for 25 years.
I have other stories as wild as those. You never can tell.
The email says more about her than you.

Yea, so my girlfriend of 10 months said she wanted to break up through email. I am of the opinion that people in committed relationships should only chat about serious matters through some verbal means. Ironically, she read a thread on reddit for advice about what to do about the relationship. Which relates to another relationship rule of mine, be wary about relationship advice from message boards, because random people on the Internet cannot fully understand your relationship and the people in the relationship.
I don't even know if I should respond.
Just hit reply and type "Unsubscribe"
Suck it up bro - 10 months is committed?
Act like you never received the email because it was caught in your spam filter.

Yes, respond with this (or something like it):
"Why didn't you just reply to my email where I said I wanted to break up with you? Why did you send me a new email? Are you trying to be petty and make this your choice? Anyway, I'm sorry if you are upset, but, this just wasn't working for me on so many levels. Take care of yourself, ok?"
Then you win.
Go out and find another one before you lose momentum. Once you get out of girl-shape it's much harder to get back in shape. The longer you haven't been getting laid the more unattractive you become and it becomes a vicious cycle. I recommend getting out there asap and finding another woman. She must be as hot or hotter than your ex or it doesn't count.
That is your mission. Good luck and godspeed.
This seems the more appropriate George Costanza break up scene, where he avoided the girl who was trying to break up with him.
Quick update. She saw this thread. Apparently, you guys are all jerks. Although I find much of the advice entertaining, but not very useful.
We chatted and decided that we think about whether working through our differences is worth the trouble for the long term. No sense in maintaining a relationship that we do not enjoy half of the time.
That's what they do sometimes. These girls sometimes have to be concerned for their safety. Even the nicest guys can get crazy. Girls who know that they have options are quick to drop guys and move on. It's over. No response necessary.
Sorry about your breakup, but your girlfriend has a point. I don't think LRC posters are all jerks, but many seem clueless about women.
Beside that, if you guys are open to trying again, I think that 10 months is not enough to get to know someone well.

10/10 because you got both founders to respond. Did you practice the delivery on another message board?
