To qualify,
So a male had to run 3 hours 2 minutes and 51 seconds
a female had to run 3 hours 32 minutes and 51 seconds
Not to make this a gender issue, but gee golly that's huge time gap between those two times. At 3 1/2 hours I'd be probably at around 50km.
Congrats to all those who got it in! I'm a thinking the cuttoff next year will be around 3 minutes & 30 seconds.

Why? It was 2:28 last year. With this trend it will be less than 2:00 next year.
2:28 last year
2:09 this year
A lot of people missed re qualifying @ Boston this year because it was too warm. If the weather is cool in 2017, there will be a lot more qualifiers in the pool making it more difficult to qualify if your window is tight.
Even if the number of applicants to Boston stays the same or goes down, the Boston marathon organizers can randomly increase the number of spots they hold open for non-qualifiers.
This year there were something like 800 less qualifiers that were allowed in, not sure who those bibs are going to.
That is part of the reason why it's 2:09, it probably would have been much less had they not done that.
The process needs to be a lot more transparent.

With temps so warm for most of the major feeder marathons this year most people were predicting cutoff times around 0:00 - 1:00 under. The fact that it came in over 2:00 under shows that the demand is probably growing and was only slower this year due to slower times.
If times regress to the mean a little bit in 2017, then expect the cutoff to grow substantially.
While I can understand the frustration one might feel with this process, especially if you end up with a near miss, at the end of the day, this is a private group putting on an event. They really don't have any obligation of transparency.
