Let's end the discussion ONCE AND FOR ALL about who qualifies for Hobby Jogger status and who escapes that title.
Universal NOT HOBBY JOGGER Qualification times to BEAT (i.e., run faster than, under, or Sub) for MALE RUNNERS:
800m--2:00.00
1600m--4:30.00
3200m--10:00.00
5000m--16:00.00
10000m--35:00.00
Half marathon--1:20:00.00
Marathon--2:45:00.00
.
Okay, I stopped reading at this point so excuse me if I'm beating a dead horse but shouldn't there by some consistency in the cutoff times?
For example, a 16 minute 5K is clearly better than 35 minutes for 10K. Without looking at online calculators, I would put 16 for 5K on par with 33:45 or so.
And then, again is the 1:20 half and 2:45 full. That full time is way better. Especially because Hobby Joggers are generally much worse at full marathons than anything shorter because they don't put in the mileage. I know a lot of guy around 1:20-1:22 for the half that couldn't break 3 hours for a full on their best day. They run about 35 miles a week. They run enough to be able to do okay and see improvements for awhile but not enough to come close to maximizing their potential. That's a hobby jogger, to me.
