But Americans need to get a Risk vs. Reward mindset or they will never compete. Reality is that Kenyans will travel damn near anywhere for $1000 while our boys won't justify a tank of gas for a shot at some money. (Except Hesch - God Bless Him!)
Plus I'll throw this out for discussion, our guys consistently pass on races like Vegas, P.F. Chang's, and the like where money could be won in order to get a fast but meaningless 17th or 24th place at Chicago? Why? Because Pinkowski throws them a bone? They get a free trip to the Windy City but ultimately no prize money, no publicity, and the same impoverished existance when they return home.
I would like to see races help our runners a little but too many are throwing their best chances away over some rather small expenses. I've got some ideas that would help but most people can't think beyond USATF sponsored welfare or fat shoe company deals.
