You are just so wrong it isn't even funny. No one is saying that today is perfect, brother, but compared to the 50s...holy crap who would want to go back to a life of ignorance? There are SO many advances in science and just general knowledge since then.
Life expectancy for a male in the US in 1950 was 65. Lead in tons of things, horrible chemicals used that are banned today. You are so incorrect about anxiety drugs...many are life-altering, yes, but in a very good way. I do think that too many people are on them, but for people who have real issues with anxiety or panic attacks, some of those drugs provide a great quality of life.
Food safety was horrible compared to what it is today, just about every mechanical device was more dangerous than today, and on and on and on and on and on. In the 1950s, a 45 year old guy was an old man.
And, as far as hospitals and insurance companies ripping people off, I hear people like you say that from time to time, but I never hear concrete examples of that. In my own life, in the lives of my immediate family members and in the lives of extended family members, I have seen nothing but excellent health care and have only heard that everyone thinks what they had to pay out of pocket was worth it, and we're talking all kind of surgeries, cancer treatments, extended medication, etc.
Part of not being mad about the cost of health care is attitude about it and accepting the fact that doctors should be paid a lot for all the school they went through and for being smart enough to go through medical school to begin with. Same goes for drugs developed by drug companies...takes time and effort from very educated people to come up with these things, and that costs money.
