Because usually "intellectuals" are liberal professors have never worked in the real world and produced anything that created jobs for others. Their money just "appears" from the institution from which they teach. It is a form of socialism that they are comfortable. Capitalism threatens them because capitalism does and liberalism takes.
This country was founded by capitalism and liberals seem to think America is bad and evil.
This first response nailed it.

One day in perhaps a few hundred years, some nation will figure this out, and their economy will blow away anything that ever been seen.
It's not like it hasn't been attempted. Pinochet and a bunch of Friedman disciples took over Chili in the 70s and implemented sweeping free-market policies. The economy eventually improved, but it required, among other things, years of economic hardship, the buoying power of the still-nationalized copper mines, and a dictatorship willing to kill anyone who got in the way.

Let's get one thing straight, Democrats are the chief facilitators of crony capitalism. Don't deny it if you don't like it.
Come on. Republicans hand out just as many incentives to corporations as Democrats and their desire to shift the vast majority of government operations and oversight to the state and local level (where politicians are bought and sold on the cheap) and thence the private sector has led to higher levels of corruption and environmental neglect (Flint, Michigan comes to mind.)
For example, Republican governors (including Kasich) have brought in their private sector buddies to run largely unaccountable public/private partnership agencies to help spur "economic development", and suddenly large sums of public money disappear and (surprise!) the jobs never materialize:
