So, Alberto SALAZAR says that Galen Rupp is "a 2:05 guy someday"?
It is so funny that he casually throws that out there. TWO POINTS.
ONE. Alberto Salazar has never coached, trained with or even had a conversation with a "2:05 guy," so how would he know this?
TWO. Rupp is only 15 seconds better in the 10,000 than Dathan. Therefore Dathan should be within one minute of Rupp in a marathon, or a "2:06 guy." Since Dathan barely broke 2:08 in years of flailing away with Salazar, is Salazar admitting that he FAILED TO OPTIMALLY DEVELOP DATHAN?
Only serious discussions on these points, please.
Salazar calls Rupp a future "2:05 guy".....TWO BIG MISTAKES

Rupp wins gold at the marathon so his time won't matter

Hey moron, two points.
ONE. Rupp is 38 seconds faster than Ritzenhein in the 10K. Not 15. Since Dathan is even faster at 5K, you might think the gap grows even more as the distance goes up.
TWO. Perhaps he believes he's capable of 2:05 because Rupp is BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE HE HAS COACHED? He ran 20 miles at 4:50 pace with a heart rate of 150. Do you think Mo, Ritz, or AlSal ever did that? NO. -
Rupp was jogging that trials workout, and he dropped them like it was nothing.
Maybe Ritz should have trained in the mountains in Mexico instead of on Michigan snow covered roads.
You can't compare then and now because Nike could put an Alter G in a sauna at 85 degrees and remove the oxygen from the room for Galen. -
1) I would bet any amount of money that Salazar has had a conversation with a 2:05 guy.
2) Rupp won the Olympic Trials Marathon. That trumps any convoluted conversion method related to Ritz you may have come up with. -
Rupp is made of katana steel. Ritz is made with crackers.
-
Do you believe that 10k times accurately predict marathon times? Not to mention, 10k times that are run years before the predicted marathon? I think you'll be hard pressed to find people on the boards to agree with you.
Instead of attacking the unknown, why not try being supportive? Galen is our best shot at a medal this time around. -

Rupp's PR was from a time trial set up specifically for him with a rabbit that took him through something like 7km. Ritz's PR came in a negative split championship race. Not a fair comparison. If Brussels had held a 10k that year, I'm fairly certain he would have run under 27 minutes. -
Not just any katana steel...Hattori Hanzo steel...

Hey "rupp-certified saladbar"
Here is why you have ZERO credibility on these boards. This is what you said -
1) GALEN RUPP WILL DNS the Olympic Marathon Trials
2) the Olympic Marathon Trials are NOT RUPP Certified. TOO HOT!
3) If he does run, he will DNF> He will crash by 25K. Mark my Words!
You are a loser. Deal with it. -

I don't think that's the same person. Notice the lack of "registered" under the OP's handle. -

It is. He has never registered his name.
He is a troll though. -
Your act is stale, brah.

Rupp dropped them like it was nothing, because it was. I mean, Meb was second.
And not as far back as two years ago, a few were saying what a tragedy it would be if a guy Meb's age made the team: http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=6828079&page=4
It's cool we can be excited about marathoning again, finally, because we have someone who has upside and is not a headcase. And, assuming Kenya manages to go, and Biwott is on the team, it's going to be a final 10k of 28 low, in upper 70s heat index (temp and humidity). In other words, a bit like how Lopes took it in 84, only a little bit faster. I like Rupp's chances there, but he'll have a 10k in him from a week earlier. Biwott won't. And Biwott may go faster.
* IF Coe keeps Kenya out of the games, it's Rupp in mid-2:09.
Rupp's 2:05 will come in London next year. That will go in a 2:01, though. -
nobody can be certain unless Mr. Rupp goes out and does it (2:05).
seems unlikely as 2:05 is fast even for East African runners and Mr. Rupp is not East African.
bottom line: he won't be able to do it. Mr. Salazar is either trying to psychologically pump up his guy or he is living in Fantasyland. -
Salazar said years ago Rupp would be under 27.00 for the 10000M. Even though at the time he probably never coached, trained or had a conversation with someone who had. (This is using your assumptions. You are effectively saying that Salazar never has conversations with elite East African runners...or Ryan Hall)
Salazar was proven right. So? What do you have to say to that? -
I'm not a Salazar fan. Not a Rupp fan. But if Salazar says Rupp is a 2:05 guy, I believe that Rupp will run 2:05 in London, Chicago or Berlin within the next two years. Rupp easily dispensed with America's best, including a 2:07 and a 2:08 guy. This is not a commentary on whether Salazar and the Oregon Project bends the rules or breaks the rules, but there is no reason to doubt Salazar's assessment of Rupp's ability.
-
granted Meb is great but he is not a 2:08 guy.

Ummm what 2:08 and 2:07 guys??? -
Ritzenhein was a 2:07 guy in years past.
