Maybe a lot of shoe companies should be asking for a refund. Weren't there around 110 dnf between the two races?

This is correct. If anyone contributed, they certainly did it out of love for the sport and recognized it is essentially a charitable donation. In even the best scenario, it wasn't going to give a ROI.

Read deeper into this. What is the cost to go to Altitude to train. Missed Work. Massage, Physical Therapy. Where does it say that she is finished running and needed the money to spend a few days in a hotel and a flight.
Well, it doesn't say anything at all about how she planned to spend it. So who knows? As the campaign stated in December, most would assume it had to to with travel and other expenses associated with attending the race.
Years ago I gave money to Tim Broe so he could pay for his mom to join him in Athens at the Olympics. I don't have a problem with funding athletes.
The reason I used the example of someone funding an online pod show and never completing it is because it happened on another website I used to visit. This guy is tax trouble and raises a bunch of on money on his website. It was a pretty popular website and he raised a ton of money saying it was going to an online show. He never produced and kept the money and never offered an explanation. People saw in facebook pictures that he had bought a new car and obviously been spending all his money except on what he said he was going to use it for. Obviously people were pissed.
This whole incident with Mrs. Santucci feels so similar it's eerie, which is why I am fascinated, and infuriated with this situation. It looks like she raised all the money with the plan to drop out just to be able to keep the money and spend it on what she wants. Buys the cheapest plane ticket and hotel and banks the rest to spend on whatever she wants.
Finished a disappointing 16th place at the USATF 10 mile championships. Whatever happened to the money she raised from the OT that she DNFed? Took down the gofundme website without any explanation of where that money went.
And what's the story with the Ryan Hall movie from Kickstarter. It was supposedly going to be about Ryan at the 2012 Olympics. Four years later, Ryan is retired, and the movie is nowhere to be seen:

No problem. With GoFundMe, you keep each and every donation you receive.
Reaching your goal is not required. GoFundMe clearly states that there is no requirement to obtain your goal .
I see nothing about paying money back or sharing profits with donors. If you give it's a gift with no expectation of return on or of investment.

I think she bought a condo in Boca and a Porsche. The proceeds have also funded her grandkids 529.
