No, he's just completely delusional because he thought he could hang with elite women runners. When he was called out on it in the comments, he said that he thought he could do half the workout with them. There is no reason for a 4 hour marathoner to think he could hang with them.
Corn Starch did you read the article? He said right in the article he thought he could do half. He knew they were good.
"I went into the workout with the belief that I could complete about half the reps. I had run 400-meters in under 70 seconds at the end of a long run a few weeks earlier and a part of me really enjoys track workouts. Grace, who paced Conley to a world-leading time of 15:09 in the 5,000-meters at the University of Washington Invitational a few days later, provided me with a reality check.
“It’s kind of fast,†she warned. “I don’t want to underestimate you. I don’t know what you train. [But] I don’t know if you’re going to last for a 400 for the first one.â€
The point of the article was to convey that Elites are awesome. Even the elite women are better than "serious men"
How many men in the United States right now can run an 800m with Kate Grace? 5000? 10000? I know I can't
How many can pace Kim Conley to a 15:xx? 30000? 50000? I ran 11:59 for 2miles three weeks ago. I could probably pace her for a mile but she would probably tap me on my shoulder 1200 into it and ask me if can pick it up a little.
I run 25-40miles a week in the winter, probably closer to 30. I play a lot of basketball. I lift a lot of weight, I walk a lot, I do a lot of hurdle work. I'm a serious athlete. I'm serious about staying fit and healthy. Just like to author I probably do what I can when I can.
Who cares if he runs 4 hours.
