Perhaps you're confusing him with Mick Ronson?

Crazy how much I've thought about this today. David Bowie was the first rock star ever I became a fan of. I bought all his records and played them over and over again for years.
I realize that a part of my life died today. And I didn't know that part was so important. Playing his old songs on youtube still gives me the goosebumps.
Thanks for everything, David.
Sorry, I just don't get all the attention he's getting from the media. I think he peaked with the duet with Bing Crosby on a Christmas show of some kind.
These rockers need to turn to Keith Richards for helpful health habits that lead to productive longevity.

Bowie peaked doing a Christmas novelty song? Nope.
You are correct about Keith Richards. He figured out what everyone else hasn't: avoid rest, healthy diets and non-alcoholic beverages. Smoke like a chimney, and do as many drugs as you can. You'll look like hell but upi'll outlive anyone who has ever shopped at a Whole Foods store!
I couldn't post on this thread yesterday. I just stared at the thread title for a long time. It can't be a troll, it must be true? What to say? Cancer? Shit. He was back to his old form recently. It's too weird, I suppose he knew....?
According to a biography and at least one liner note, he ran cross country. He certainly looked like a runner; the only running footage I can think of is in the "China Girl" video, when he runs hard to get to the girl, seemingly to save her from a symbolically dangerous bowl of rice. He's wearing several layers of stylish clothing (he briefly tries to loosen his tie), but he still looks graceful.
Watch at around 1:59:
Since LetsRun knows all, someone settle this for me: I keep seeing the quote "You can neither win nor lose if you don't run the race" attributed to Bowie, only within the past 24 hours or so. Does anyone know when/where he said this because it's a lyric from "Love My Way" by the Psychedelic Furs (1982). Who said it first?

Nope ... unless you can provide a source to your claim.

Don't need to. it's not exactly an original thought.

Nope ... you need to.
Please take your claim to the press, quotation sites, and everyone else telling them they are wrong to give Bowie credit. The real world disagrees with you.

The press is citing a quote that Bowie made. That doesn't certify it as original -- because it's not. It is a pithy aphorism that everyone has made before, and very few would have known that Bowie had said it as well.

Really... then provide any proof you can. It seems that you can't do that. That it isn't original is nothing more than a personal claim. Maybe you only thought you heard it before.

I've said it before. Do you think and Bowie and I are the only ones? it's nothing original.
You've hijacked this thread. Enough.
Play nice. You are the one who "hijacked" the thread. Stop...
Malmo is right. That phrase has been around for eons.

Can you prove a source? Bowie gets credit going back to at least 2000.
My concern is that "the press" is not fact-checking something they pulled off someone's website. As for calling the phrase unoriginal, you could say that about anything, except when printing it as a direct quote.
David Bowie, Richard Butler, who cares? All those British guys look alike anyway.
It's not the press. The quote is attributed to Bowie by a very large number of sources. Try a Google search and use, Search Tools > Any Time > Custom Range, to eliminate recent links. You'll only get Bowie.
Then use Google to search Books, News, Scholarly articles (scholar.google.com) and search for the quote. You'll only get Bowie.
Then try searching for part of the quote to see if was paraphrased. No other sources claaimed than Bowie.
PS. put the search text within quotes to focus the search.
The earliest result is 2/1/2001 and it's from a quote website. Again, not the original source. Unless you're one of those people who cites Wikipedia, you'd know not to believe everything you read on the internet. Prior to 2001, the results pull up the Psychedelic Furs, a song they wrote in 1982. Of course there is the chance that Bowie had quoted their song, or the other way around. That's all I'm trying to figure out.
