Good tips I think. another substitute that may help some is a citrus-flavored seltzer over ice with a couple shakes of bitters (yes that’s alcohol but pretty insignificant). kombucha also has an alcohol like taste

16. Decent speedwork this morning
3-6 beers 7 days a week is a lot of alcohol. Have you stopped for a week at this point? If so, any noticeable differences?
It is. Trust me. Two of my liver enzymes skyrocketed (via lab tests) from doing this for 2 years. It isn't worth it. Had I not had the lab tests done I could have suffered some serious liver damage.
Last night was somewhat normal. Out at dinner my wife had 2 glasses of wine, an espresso martini for dessert and a g&t in the bar we went to afterwards. That’s probably 5+ servings of alcohol which is a lot for 3 hours especially for a woman.
any suggestions on how i should tell her I’m concerned?
ive basically stopped drinking in the last 6 weeks before my next marathon to help cut weight
Thanks. Any positive changes since you stopped/cut back?
Down to 1 drink a week wrote:

Why isn't every answer on this post directing people to AA? Working the twelve steps with a sponsor is an amazingly powerful experience that will help almost anyone quit drinking forever.
Alcohol is poison. That's a scientific fact.
If you or your spouse are developing troubling habits then its gotta be addressed with compassion and solutions in mind. And AA is the best solution, in most cases.
Why would you let you or your spouse slowly drown out life and take regular doses of poison?
17. Definitely sleeping better and better equipped to handle stress. Running hasn't fully come around but I feel like it has to help.
Day 1534 - Ran lookout mountain 5.7 up,5.7 down. 7:15 ave. Sobriety is awesome. Lost 45 pounds, not throwing up everyday. can think clearly. still cant type or write well though!
I am in AA and it worked for me but it doesnt work for everyone. Big thing for me (and I think most alcoholics) is that Alcohol was not the problem - it was the solution. I needed to fix the problem. When I addressed the actual problem alcohol became moot.
That's great stuff. 18 here,
19. Good hard time trial this morning.
AA definitely isn’t for everyone. Rehab, intensive outpatient program, and 90 AA meetings in 90 days did it for me. 14.5 years ago. But I was ready to quit. My life was totally unmanageable and my health failing. Not everyone is ready. Not everyone enjoys AA. I haven’t been to a meeting in years and miss it. But if you’re not ready to quit it won’t work for you.
20. Great to hear someone 14+ years down the road
21. 3 weeks down.

Day 8515 here.
The first 30 were the hardest. After 100 it's the new normal and the main danger is taking it for granted and slipping up. At some point you will quit thinking about it and won't be able to imaging giving up what you have accomplished.
Stay strong and good luck.
