I honestly didn't believe I could stop drinking. Drank every day for 15+ years but was functional. 8 beers, bottle of wine and couple of beers or 750ml of vodka a night. always trying to hide the evidence. Always had to throw down the last one before I went to bed. I tapered down over about 2 weeks then stayed at 1 drink a day for a couple of weeks and then finally bit the bullet. The habit was difficult to break. Perhaps I was very lucky and didn't have as big a problem as I thought, however, I would not trust myself to have even one drink right now in case I went back to where I was. That was over 2 years ago and dont miss it at all
I just want this to indicate that the thought of stopping is actually more difficult than actually stopping. Good luck to everyone that is trying to stop. Keep at it - it is worth it
