Using sit-n-kick tactics, no less.

There was an article a couple years ago that I read about this. I'm sure you can find it if you spend the time. It explained that some early articles written about Ches (when he first cam to the U.S.) were lazy journalism and painted the Ches as the stereotypical picture of the poor Kenyan with no family making good in the U.S. Ches was very frustrated by the misinformation in those articles, and was hesitant to talk to the press for a long time...he probably still is.
Sure he was upset his bs lie was exposed. Kenyans are known to do this all the time. Tell you the story you want to hear.
I don't know if this is true or not. But before everybody takes wild assertions that he is lying or not. Why don't you just stop and read the article (not the OPs subject line), then think about it. If you do that, you can at least go a long way towards figuring if its plausible.
He didn't say he ran for 12 hours. He said, he covered 60 miles in 12 hours. So he covered an average rate of 5 miles every hour. In other words, he didn't run for 12 hours straight. Also, we can embrace the basic fact that he is an NCAA champion. You could say that is thanks to god given talent, but the more obvious inference was that he had been running a lot. Its not freakin rocket science. I mean, if some college basketball player lights it up in the NCAA tourney, do you call him a liar when he claims he had been playing in the school yards for hours and hours every day? What the hell do you think Ches was doing in Kenya, playing World of Warcraft all day?
Frankly, the only thing that makes me question the story is why he would need to run 60 miles in 12 hours to take a test in the first place. Even in Kenya, cars exist. I would think you could hitch a ride for at least some portion of a 60 mile route. But its not that he couldn't do it if he had to. Even at 15 or 16 y/o its very plausible.
Someone should really discuss the Cheserek tinder fiasco at XC Nats...them Pilot boys know all about it.
What happened?

I guess you haven't read the story. There are articles about it. Google helps you find it.
Basically on the day before his test, there were huge rain storms that washed out the roads. Since the roads were washed out his only option was the run there. I believe in the articles he mentions that he did stop to eat along the way.
low population density outside of the big cities. but that is no doubt changing in many places.
