Barnes is a stud.
Disregarding the 3k, probably the most disappointing GLIAC on the distance side. Everyone is so down in numbers (except GV, they never will). 154, 418, 1439. Dang.
As was already pointed out, the 800 was extremely tactical, and so was the mile. The 5k just didn't have the best people in the conference because they were all focused on the 3k. If you watched the meet you would know the races were exciting and close, even if they weren't fast.
Grand Valley runs the GLIAC once again. Inspiring performance from Malone, Ohio Dominican, Ferris State, Walsh, Lake Superior State. Domination!

At least the milers beat the slow heat. No way should you try to run a tactical 800 when place is by time and it should be positive split race. You can't make up that 3.5 to 4 seconds in the last half of the race.

Hammer of FSU ran the first 800 alone before the field caught up to him. The difference of 8th ( A heat ), and 9th ( B heat ) was a mere .13. 4:18 by a 4:09 miler is disappointing. The mile and 800 were especially boring and tactical races. Frustrating to watch. Kudos to Grand Valley on yet another victory.
As was stated prior, most of the distance races were pretty tactical. Also a thing to consider is just how tough it is to run fast on that flat 200 track. It really showed in that mens 5k.

I was there, thank you. Run fast and may the best runner win. Too much jogging.
This is why it was actually fun to watch Baum/Windle and the Ashland guys run the mile or 800 at conference. Baum ran 4:12/4:10/4:11 in the three years he won and hall didn't mess around last year either with 4:11. Sad when you can triple and win them all when neither of the times you ran could even win in the last 4 years. Get some competition in there!
Why did Baum leave Ashland?
I think the important thing to question is will Nick Hall use his redshirt year at Ashland? That kid has so much potential and unfortunately I don't think he'll reach it under Tom Scott at Ashland without some good training partners that are on/near his level.

Yes he'll red shirt.
I specifically was referring to next year. Will he return to Ashland or go somewhere else?

Everyone seems to be leaving. If he was smart he'd go back to Lake Erie.

Not that 3k doe! damn!
The 5k times were pretty in line with the conversion for times from a 300m track to a 200m. For the NCAA conversion for qualifying purposes it's usually about a 9 second difference. Plus, the top 3 distance runners in the conference were not in the race.

The races aren't run for your entertainment. In meets like this, place is #1, time immaterial. Yes, the men's 800 meters final heat top places nearly 'gave it' to the previous heat winner. Such is the nature of it. It'll always be this way at some conference meets. Always. You don't have to like it but you'd be wrong to think it's wrong to run that way.
I wouldnt call a race with a "pacer" a tactical race.
