And how many teams have beaten Colorado before? Every year, but 5?

In the U.S., XC is primarily a team sport. The individual story is usually secondary to the team battle.

Less than most, I'd wager.

Unbelievable, I stop by LRC to see how they would cover the freaking never accomplished before historic feat of winning 3 cross country titles in a row and all LRC can do is bury it as part of Syracuse "out coloradoed colorado" (my god did the BroJos jerkoff to Cuse).
I mean this guy is incredible and there is NO PICTURE, NO STORY dedicated to his accomplishment.
Oh well, just another title. Ho hum it's number 10 (to go along w/2 2nd in his 12 championship races). No big deal. Now let's blather on about Syracuse.
Both stories received coverage, but what Syracuse did was more unexpected, and frankly more impressive. Syracuse hadn't even been to nationals in literally decades less than 10 years ago. That program has progressed steadily from being garbage, to good, to regionally competitive, to getting to nationals, to contending for a podium place, to an upset national title, all in less than 10 years. They did it without history, altitude, imports (no I don't count Knight as an import as he is from closer to Syracuse than almost anyone else on the team) or most of the other trappings of success at many of the other powerhouse programs. Yes Ches is our first triple champion ever. He's also very clearly on another level, and we're not going to be judging his career by how many NCAA titles he won. This is a positive step for him, but it's not a career highlight. What Syracuse did is indicative of everything right with college XC, and I'm glad they are getting some love.
If it is any solace, I enjoy running, but am only a fringe fan of the sport itself. Your thread made me look up Mr. Cheserek and read up on someone I had never heard of. So, if you don't like the threads out there, do exactly what you did and make your own ;-)
And, thanks, btw!

You have to ask yourself what is the more interesting story that people want to read? The billionth article about how Cheserek dominated everyone again, or how Syracuse came through to upset the favored two time defending champs Colorado and won their first NCAA title in 60+ years.
I know which one sounds more interesting to me.
Plus, you act like Cheserek was completely ignored. His name prominently displayed in the title of the article. The article praises and recaps his victory. It's not like he was left out.

Sorry but a kenyan 24 year old winning his 10th championship just isn't quite as exciting as a major upset from a program that has not historically dominated on the national scene (ie: not a Wisconsin, Oregon, Stanford, etc.)
Also Cheserek usually wins his races in about the most boring way possible; he simply sits and kicks, never pushes the pace, never leads and never tries hard to test himself with a fast time. He's probably even more boring to watch than mo farah.
Go back to tumblr you nutjob PC queen
Syracuse ran a gritty race and won in a bit of an upset. Everyone loves an underdog. Good for them.
The Big Cheese was a heavy favorite but when you run a championship meet when anything but a commanding win is a total fail...Few have ever run in that situation. And he delivered. Good for Edward.
Cheserek is a tiger when he's running and a gentleman the rest of the day. If I were to design a runner, that would be the prototype.

He's a man amongst boys. He did what was totally expected even if it had not been done before.
Yeah, I know this won't be a popular view but he really has out-grown the NCAA. And good for him, he is a great runner with a bright future on the international scene.
But Cheserek dominating more college races is not impressive at this point. If Bekele had decided to run here in college and won 4 NCAA titles would you be impressed? If Lebron had gone to college and dominated the competition would that really be impressive? Ritz turned pro before he could seek another XC title.
At this point it makes no sense for Ches to be competing against college freshmen. He needs to turn pro and see where he stacks up against Farah, Gebrhiwet, Gebremeskel, Rupp, etc.
+1
He's not getting anything out of the NCAA at this point, but he is heavily influenced by those around him and they want him to stay. He'll finish up at Oregon and then bag his Nike deal. He seems pretty durable, I don't think he's worried about getting injured and not getting a contract.

And yet there were threads talking about Thomas Curtin taking him at Nats because he beat a Ches that tempoed for 9k. Just stop
Obviously more doped up than Bolt, Gatlin, Farah, and Radcliffe combined!
So who cares?

This is just a wrong and stupid statement, sorry no personal offense intended.
The story is all about Bolt when he breaks yet another WR or wins his 1000000000th race. People were more than happy to give the headline to El G and Geb when they were winning race after race in absolutely dominating fashion. Same goes for Seb Coe and Ovett back in their day. When Ritz was winning everything in HS the coverage was all on Ritz.
Strangely, when Ches or Kiprop win races in dominating fashion, it becomes a sideshow.
Frankly, I do believe it's because they happen to be African (nationality). People probably care less about an African winning a race than an American or Brit (even if he happens to be of Somali ethnicity). I don't think it's a matter of racism, but I really do think a culture of "us against them" has developed when it comes to African distance runners, for better or worse.
Your post makes no sense. El G and Geb are African and Bolt is of African descent.
Athletes or teams generally don't get a lot of credit for dominating inferior competition. Bolt and Farah get headlines because they consistently rise to the occasion to beat the best athletes in the world at the most prestigious competitions.
When Alabama beats podunk U by 50 points no one cares. If they squeak by a national contender everyone pays attention.
Basketball players move on to the NBA after a year or two in college if they are better than the competition. Cheserek is at a different level than the rest of the NCAA now. He needs to move to the next level.
Your analogies are "wrong and stupid" ... sorry, no offense. When Bolt wins gold at Worlds over Justin Gatlin that IS the story. There is no other side story that is equally or more exciting and interesting. We don't care about the battle for 5th place or the guy who got 8th.
With NCAAs, there is a team and individual competition. In the men's race, the team competition was more interesting than Cheserek racking up yet another title. Cheserek got a lot more praise and attention when he unexpectedly won NCAAs as a freshman. But two years later it's just business as usual and as others have said, he is dominating over inferior competition. Syracuse winning was bigger news, period.
That said, you are probably right that if it was an American winning NCAAs three times in a row, it'd probably get more attention/praise. Probably because this is an American site with a mostly American fanbase. In the Kenyan media guess what, they give way more attention and praise to Kenyan distance runners than they do to Mo Farah, white runners or Usain Bolt. And that's ok.

Do I really have to spell it out for you?
Africans in the sense that they are black and are citizens of places like Kenya. The media and the press has never once "fawned over" a black athlete from Kenya, despite their success. People have been rooting against the Kenyans for decades now. See coverage of steeplechase in the last 10 years ("cheer me on as I challenge the Kenyan domination yeah!"). Kenya has become the Soviet Union or China of distance running.
Nobody has been even close to Bolt (except earlier this year when he was still recovering) for many years now. Yet the crowds line up to see him literally walk backwards away from the competition.
Parodies have been made about how easily Bolt wins his races and the ridiculous margins in which he wins them.

For those that thin Chez is "25," if you meet him you will quickly realize he is the age that is stated. 22.
Yeah well, can you prove how old he is?
If you lived in a hut in Africa with your parents and siblings in poverty, what would you do to get out of there?

Hearsay and horshit.
Did you meet Chez in high school?
Or as a Freshman at Oregon.
You meet him up close, he has non of the chracteristics
of being anything other than his age, 22.
The smear him as as old as Rono was take, is pure sour grapes and idiocy.

With a few exceptions (Geb, Bekele, the Dibabas), Kenyans are actually more popular with fans and the media. They speak English and people can pronounce their names.
I can name plenty of Kenyans who are popular with the media, but I'll just throw out the recent obvious one. DAVID RUDISHA. HELLO?!?!? You really don't think the press has "fawned over" Rudisha? "Not once" as you say? Your post is ridiculous.
