You should approach them in exactly that order, begin with the beginning, progress towards the middle and then ultimately, finish with the end.
Run it like a 3000, but just a little slower, but not as slow as you would race a 5K.
I actually disagree with Bludo. I'd try to get the middle first, since that's usually where you lose the most time.
