It's "discus"
I like how the article says he's only 7 years old and already holds the record for 5,6, and 7 year-olds.

Discuss like talk about it, bro. Not go throw a discus.
Looks like an age cheat and a doper to me.
4:38.x 1500m yesterday, another wr. He is now 9.
Won't be long until Flotrack has a series of videos about him. It also won't be long until he discovers Rubik's cubes are more his thing, or minecraft, or whatever probably smart and obsessive 10 or 11 year olds like today.
While it's pretty nuts that a 9 year old ran a sub-5 mile equivalent, who cares? And for those who do care, why? You could try to waffle by saying no one has expectations for the kid and it's just pretty neat that he's running so fast so young, but the title of the thread is "Daniel 'the future' Skandera will go down as the greatest runner ever." I hope he continues to enjoy running and it's not a tennis dad type situation. I'm not hopeful.

This must be your very first visit to letsrun. Welcome!

I think a lot of us 'care'. Not to the extent that we care about the Olympics or even NCAA but we care in the sense that a) it's a fast time for his age and b) it's in the sport we compete in.
Will this kid go on to set world records in the mile? Unlikely. However, Jordan Hasay didn't turn out so badly.
Rest assured that his races will be locked behind the Flotrack paywall for years to come, keeping him from being very well-known. Flotrack is de facto acting like a protective parent, thanks to their avarice.

I just googled him and this thread popped up so thats where I posted this. I'm not the OP but I do think its an impressive result.
I dont know if he'll be an adult star or not but there is nothing wrong with recognizing and celebrating todays accomplishment.

Fake person vs real person. Yes I see how that is relevant....

Agree with this sentiment. There was a. 10year old girl that set the 12 year old world record in the 5k running 70 mi a week a bunch of years back- one of the magazines did a feature on her. Don't think I heard of her again.
If this kid makes it to high school, then we'll have something to talk about.
This post was removed.
I REALLY mis-remembered this one. Girl was Alan hadley- who has run 2:38 for the marathon but now has crippling race anxiety issues

I would like an update as well, what happened to him?!
He probably retired due to too many injuries. Getting old sucks.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
