Say he only spends 2 hours a week per client. That's still 8 hours a month. That's $50 an hour for Fernando.
What's a golf lesson or tennis lesson costs for an hour? $40-$150?
What's a massage? $50-$70?
Those are just run of the mill rates. If you got a golf lesson from a famous instructor it would cost a ton more.
Wejo, I'm going to refer you to this price list...
Hudson (Cabada's Coach): $75/month
Hansons: $200/month
Jack Daniels (Run Smart Project): $250/month
McMillan: $250/month
Mark Hadley: $125/month
Pete McGill: $150/month
Pros Marathoners who offer coaching:
Jeff Eggleston (2:10:52): $110/month through Revolution Running
Ryan Vail (2:10:57): Not sure about the price here
Fernando Cabada (2:11:36): $400/month
Matt Llano (2:12:28) and His Coach: $250/month through McMillan
Andrew Lemoncello (2:13:40): $250/month also through McMillan
It's not about whether $400/month is a reasonable price for the services in a vacuum. It's about whether it's a reasonable price compared to the going market rate for personal coaching.
You use golf instruction as an example... if I wanted a golf lesson and I had the choice between two instructors with equal qualifications offering the same service, I think I'd go with the instructor offering the better value. I certainly wouldn't pay an extremely inflated price for one instructor if that instructor's instructor was offering the same service for significantly less (Hudson). And I certainly wouldn't pay Phil Mickelson 4 times what I would pay Tiger Woods all other things being equal.
