If you drink, don't drive. No one is going to worship you if you kill yourself. No one is going to market your name and put on a track meet in your honor. Be wise. Live to run another day.
Have a safe and happy holiday.

But he did drive drunk, he did kill himself, people do worship him, they do market his name and there is a track meet in his honor.
That made no sense. The drunk driver that killed Prefontaine was Prefontaine. And they now market his name and do a track meet in his honor.

I think the point is "don't you do it thinking you'll get the same result."
The original poster was being sarcastic about how this society won't promote drunks. Our society is so sick that we did just that, honor someone who drove drunk and paid the ultimate price for it. Would we worship him had he killed a woman and children instead of himself, pre lived but was sent to prison for 20 years, thus not attaining his potentail as a runner then either? I think not.

In 1975 very few went to prison for negligent homocide. Tom Jordan and Phil Knight would still be on their knees servicing Pre.

Homocide? Was Pre gay?
Drinking and driving should be every americans right. This country was founded on the desire for freedom and to live that way. With full knowledge and acceptance that there would be consequences. Obviously over the years things have changed and many people no longer feel that way. Personally I like things the way they were more than I do now.
So I say to you. If you don't want to be run over by a drunk driver then stay off the sidewalk.

Homocide is very intense, I've seen it before.
Sarcasm hopefully?
when i go out drinking i ride my bike or walk, that way if i am riding my bike drunk then all i can hurt is myself.. I think it is also easier than walking because its too easay to trip...but driving a car is kinda like when you lay down and you get the spins, the only reason i know that is because when i am in the passanger seat of the car everything starts to spin..also if you ask a bartender they will pay for a taxi if you say you are too drunk to drive because courts have ruled they are liable if you drink adn drive and kill a family.

dont know where you live, but in many states the bar is NOT liable to a 3rd party if the bar overserves you and you "kill a family." in wisconsin for example there is a law that gives the bar immunity for such conduct. the immunity also applies to social hosts. so in wisco you can get your guests/patrons drunk and not worry about if they kill someone.
see wis stat sect 125.035

I think that the lay is good in wisc becuse people need to take responsibility for their actions, no matter how stupid. I am kinda happy that being a college student i can spend that extra little bit on a drink since I know with confidence that the bars i goto will pick up the taxi fare if i need it.

Shoulddn't even killing be every american's right? If you won't get killed: Do't go out, don't open the door, don't talk to anyone.

f*** you. my brother was killed by a drunk driver in his car when the piece of shit ran a red light last new year's eve. if you want to drink- fine. stay the f*** home. when the consequences that you spoke of affect only you, then that's fine. when they affect two small kids, a wife, and a whole family that has been left behind, then you have no right. again, go f*** yourself.
