Just imagine if she raced more often, cared about the sport and had a coach who knew what he was doing.. She'd probably run 46 seconds!
"coach who knew what he was doing"...
Is this a joke? Like..
You don't need to like Bobby. You certainly don't need to like how often he races his athletes. But to say that he doesn't know what he is doing is quite possibly the worst take i've seen on this site in some time. Kersee is almost certainly the best American coach right now, maybe the best in the world. That 50.68 should shut any haters up forever.
52.70 is .05 slower than her college time, not sure how you are jumping to sub 50:00. I saw 2 missteps appro at the 250m mark so could shave .2 sec off of 52.70 if she cleans that up.

Neither of you two guys have a clue.
First of all, Sydney isn't going sub 50 at the Olympics.
Second, 52.70 is FASTER than her time in college, NOT slower. And the "2 missteps" that you thought you saw is irrelevant. She decided to use an extra step at every hurdle, compared to how she usually runs.
And shave off only .2? Where do you come up with this nonsense? Sydney wasn't even trying. She jogged that race.

You are clueless! Missteps are critical. You are the reason no one posts threads on sprinting. My apologies for posting. Mods, can you delete post#8. It is erroneous apparently.

You still don't get it. What you are calling "missteps" that you think she needs to "clean up" was her deliberately taking one more step per hurdle than normal, which is difficult for her to do since she has a long stride. Kersee told her to run like that. It was intentional.
She ran most of the race with 15 steps and finished the last few hurdles with 16 steps. She normally runs 14 steps for most of the race with 15 steps the last few hurdles. There were no "missteps" because it was all deliberate.
And when she goes back to her normal number of steps it will be much faster than .2 faster.
I’m a “clueless” SML fan who’s watched almost every single race of hers since HS and every race at Kentucky to this day. You make me root against her now, hope she missteps all 13 hurdles in Paris and hope Bol has none. Then let me know if missteps are irrelevant. If I could downvote you 2x I would.
49.99 for a women’s 400mh is insane and not happening anytime soon. The 50.68 WR is already insane, not only .77 faster than the #2 woman in history, but a serious outlier for SML herself. Her opener yesterday was totally solid and fine but doesn’t make me think she’s any more likely to break her WR than she was a day ago.

My current guess for Paris is something like:
1. Sydney 50.90
2. Femke 51.30
3. Clayton 52.90
4. Cockrell 53.10
But now that she is faster at 200M and 400M, it is possible that this raw foot speed can be translated to a faster hurdle time than her current WR. Her hurdling rhythm is clearly not there after a 2 year hiatus.
