DC running is great. Are you are a man or a woman? How fast are you?
I am a man. I am not a real serious runner. I love to run and want to do races but I am hurt now. I found out I have chondromalcia when I started training for the Houston Marathon last fall. I feel that with a year or two and some experience I could BQ. The only thing I have really been timed in is a 2 mile run and I did it in 11:53, this was almost 3 years ago and that was with only a little training when I ran that.
a bit cold right now...
running is good if you like pavement. Only non pavement runs I've ever done are Rock Creek (horse trails w/ some fine hills) and the B+O Canal Tow Path...flat as a pancake but you can run to Ohio and back if you please...it gets quasi-crowded on nice saturdays and sundays...the DC Road Runners Club is a very well run organization with a lot of good, cheap races and a traditional saturday long run.
DC roadrunners are good, but there are a ton of other clubs in Virginia and Maryland. I live in the city and in my opinion the biggest and best of these clubs is the Montgomery Country Road Runners, who operate several races a month along with clinics. They are of course based in Montgomery County which is adjacent to the district. But you need not limit yourself to just one club, there are a myriad of options to choose from. DC is a great place to run, and if you look around a little and are willing to drive between 15-30 minutes into VA and MD you can find some really beautiful country roads and trails to run on.
I agree about the Montgomery Country Road Runners (they're in Maryland). They are a well-organized bunch. Maryland and Virginia do have some great places to run. Even running in DC past all the monuments the last week of March when the cherry blossoms are out is great. No shortage of interesting people to watch when running in the touristy areas of DC in the summer - of course it is hot and humid, but go early in the morning and it's not too bad.
thanks for the help guys. I am exploring grad school options right now and George Washington has a program that really caught my attention. I am glad yall mentioned Virginia too b/c I am also interested in Va Tech. Hot and humid wont be a problem with me since I am from Houston. Anyway, I thank yall for the info.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
