If marriage is a right, than why can't people marry siblings, or have multiple spouses?
Seems like marriage as a "right" is a "privilege" or it is a slippery slope.
I swear, the Judicial system is turning this country upside down, everything good is bad, everything bad is good. No wonder people are acting the way they do.
I'm not a lawyer, but let's see if I can get it at least partly right.
In the case of siblings, there is a compelling state interest to limit that right because of problems in the gene pool.
In the case of multiple spouses, polygamous marriage has never been recognized as a fundamental right, so it gets tough to argue that anyone is being denied his or her rights.
The next phase of the slippery slope usually involves children and animals. Glad you didn't mention that, but it's a favorite of right-wingers. Of course, children and animals can not consent to marriage. So, that problem is easily solved.
How did I do counselors?
