In a few days I'm running a 6x1200m workout with 2:30 rest between. A couple weeks ago I ran a 16:46 5k. What would be a good plan for the workout time wise?

Why are these freakin workout/race predictor threads so common? If Lydiard didn't concern himself with workout splits than why should you? Just go by effort and enjoy the sensation of running fast. You can check your times for fitness info if you want but why focus on trying to particular numbers? Do you enjoy getting discouraged by seeing slow times when you are having an off day? Sorry if i sound pissed but i just dont understand why everybody makes such a big deal out of this stuff.

I'd say to start around 8k pace, and maybe drop the repeat times down to close to your current 5k pace. So, first one in 4:10, and maybe aim to get the last one in 4:00.
You need to figure out the goal of the workout before you can set a pace. Where did you decide on the interval length and number?
1) long-term goals
2) intermediate goals
3) plan a season(s) around those
4) plan workouts based on how you're progressing.
Or, as the other poster said, just go run. There's no reason to get really analytical unless you're seriously self-coaching and trying to optimize everything, in which case you wouldn't need to ask. The marginal gains from precise intervals and paces are tiny.
