So much mean spirit here.
I'm predicting a 3:51 for the race for Rupp.

He's going to win in 3:51.89
Interesting that the building (former YMCA) that overlooks the track has recently been leased by Under Armour and they are planning to put in a new turf field on the Duniway field.
I lived in Portland for four years in the early 80s and regularly ran on this track also, and I've been out there a number of times since then. It's a local hub.
The track is at the base of some hills, and I've never heard of a meet being hosted there, except for maybe nearby Portland State. My recollection is that there is virtually no spectator seating, and there would be no way to charge admission or take tickets; ie. it's entirely open. Can you confirm this? With all the track venues around Portland, this seems like an odd place to host any meet, even though it's a favorite spot among local runners.
You are correct that this is a surprise choice. They selected Duniway in order to get an alcohol permit. They had two to three places to choose from where Portland parks and rec could issue a permit.
Other than Lincoln or Cleveland HS, which would have been ruled out because of the drinking, the next best choice would be Fernhill Park. A little more open in terms of giving them more room for vendors, stages or whatever.
The track is not quite as nice, but I think Duniway works because it is on the W side of the city so closer to downtown.
I predict somewhere between 3:45 and 4:05 and that we learn next to nothing about his chances for a medal from it because we don't have good priors about his and salazars goals for the race and where he's at w.r.t. periodization.
FYI, the start lines are marked for 400 and 800 meter races.

Who do you think Rupp is? Leo Manzano...
Does anyone know what the pacers are supposed to come through?
If Rupp goes after it, I say 3:51, if he wants to make it tactical, 3:54 for top 3
Tbh, I think he should go after it, 800m in 1:55, really no reason to make this tactical

Is that for the race or stupid post race workout
Rupp's been microdosing speedwork all season... someone better call him out!!
Ran a workout there last week, and boy, was it tough!
4 x 800m avg. 2:09, followed by 8 x 200m avg. 28
A nice, soft track, easy on this old body, and close to the IPAs downtown!
Cheers!

If the probability of DNS = 50% that means there is a 50% change he takes the start.
Now, if there is a probability of 50% that he DNFs, I believe that means the probability he finishes would be 25%, right?
You can't DNF if you DNS.
Learn to condition.

What was the recovery?

I posted this on another thread. Make of it what you will.
I run track workouts at Duniway twice a week.
#1 - The track is a 440yd track. Yes, you heard that right. It's so old that it is STILL a 440yd track. Will be interesting how they figure out a 400m or 800m race.
#2 - This was the very first track to use Nike regrind material for the surface. The track is composed of old, ground up athletic shoes. It is a soft, SLOW track. Great for training, but not for producing fast times.
#3 - There is a noticeable "uphill" on turn 3, due to tree roots from a neighboring tree.
So, I do not anticipate fast times coming from this meet. Factor these points into your predictions.
Why the hell do you run at the worst track in Portland? There are many others (Lincoln H.S. nearby) that are a lot better than that YMCA atrocity with auto traffic and fumes all around. No parking, joggers all over the track. Do yourself a favor and run somewhere nicer, and I admit that I ran many sessions and races there before I wised up.
It's where our club has workouts. The other (downtown) tracks are usually being used by other groups/clubs, especially the high school tracks. I still don't know why every running club insists on having track workouts on the same day and time of the week.
It will be interesting to see how they set up Duniway. There isn't much parking and it's not that close to any Max (light rail) stops that I know of.
He did his tune-up the other day.
4x(200,150) at mile race pace.
1. 28.2 200
2. 20.9 150
3. 27.7 200
4. 20.4 150
5. 28.1 200
6. 20.5 150
7. 27.7 200
8. 19.7 150
That workout makes it seem like he's going to pull a rabbit out of a hat at worlds. Makes it sound like he'll run really well.
Rupp runs 3:53 in this race.
Female coach having affair with male runner. Should I report it?
Colin Sahlman runs 1:45 and Nico Young runs 1:47 in the 800m tonight at the Desert Heat Classic
If Daniel's and Pfitz are outdated..then where do I look for modern training plans?
