Over the summer, I have gradually built up mileage to 45 mpw. On my 50 mpw week, I increased mileage and also added a tempo run (bad idea). I put a lot of strain on my shins after having a tempo run in the morning and a 4 mile run afterwards.
I've taken a break from running for a week and have been doing a lot of cross training/recovery, but I only have 2 weeks before season training starts and I want to get to atleast 50 mpw.
Should I power through these next 2 weeks to reach my mileage goaI? feel like it was only the tempo run that screwed everything up, but I could be wrong.
Let it be known that I run on the road 70% of the time, over pronate, and have had a past history of shin splints.
This is my last HS XC season so I wanted to maximize on everything can.
Thanks!
