Yes. I AM almost everyone in the tech industry and I AM a libertarian.

ARM was 1985 and copies RISC which was developed at Stanford in the 70s.
The Higgs particle was invented in 2012. Pretty darn damn impressive.

Both are arguably far more influential than Uber or Airbnb.
Today, Skype is just a product that is owned by Microsoft.
Skype had great potential but they wanted to monetize to quickly (typical Euro problem because of the lack of VC). They could have totally dominated the IM market over Whatsapp.
In contract to America, Europe is full of beautiful women and we have excellent food & wine. We have a better work-life balance and can enjoy these things more instead of making nerdy tech start-ups.
America actually subcontracts that to you? That's almost unbelievable.

It's true. I have a few college friends in the valley and its is well known. Basically socially liberal, but fiscally/economically conservative makes the most sense.
And you know that there's no middle class in the valley, right?

Fiscal/economic conservatives as extreme as libertarians are operating on fantasies that have no basis in economic history. There is very little new in the economic history of the world.
The valley is winners or losers. There's no denying it. Either you are doing just fine or living three to a one-bedroom apartment. That's actually the outcome of a very conservative economic value system. People seem to love punishing themselves.
And, to the OP, you are locked away in the U.S. exporting your cheap dollars making it very hard for European companies to trade in the U.S. Lots going on in Europe.

Doing customer service for Comcast does not count as being in IT.

I agree there are a lot of socially liberal/fiscally conservative people here (including myself, I've lived here for 20+ years), but that's not libertarian. However, many of these moderates vote Democratic.
BTW, where do you think Obama comes when he needs to raise money for the Democratic party? The Valley. And it's not because he's getting huge donations from his Libertarian supporters!!
Speaking as a European and a norwegian, you americans generalize us waaay too much. Yes, it's true, if I or someone from sweden, denmark, finland, germany, france and more get sick, we won't have to worry about our finances. However, countries that used to belong to the sovjet and other east european contries don't have it the same way as us. There's a major difference between Romania, who is poor, and Norway, who is the wealthiest country in the world.

So how is it that while the U.S. produces literally dozens of innovative, valuable hardware and software companies every year, Europe hasn't even managed to develop 1 in 10 years?
Why hasn't any red state produced a single important tech company in the last 10 years?
Maybe crazy-ass liberal Northern California, with their acceptance of gays, welcoming immigrants with open arms, strong worker protections, and high minimum wages is just better than the rest of the world at producing tech companies...

I'm not completely disagreeing with you, but it's not nearly as one-sided as people think when it comes to business/economic opinions in the Valley. As the old "major" social issues fade more and more over time, it'll become better and better for Republicans.

Why have 90% of "blue states" not produced a single important tech company in the last 10 years? Oh, because the "red state vs blue state" arguments are incredibly idiotic and designed to manipulate simpletons like yourself.
Your second paragraph is hilarious and ultra-ignorant (not surprising), as literally none of those social headline issues result in technological innovation and/or wealth creation. Not a single one. The tech sector has been enduring harsh criticism over the last 20 years for not being "diverse" enough. Wait, all white men [and some Asians] created all of this? How can that be?! Deny that it's happening!! And even mentioning minimum wage in areas like Silicon Valley is hilarious, as those folks even making $15/hr are struggling and live nowhere near the city in which they work (or they share an 500 sq ft apartment with 4 other people, which is no way to live).
Technological innovation, real estate development, finance, etc (and general greediness and power desired by a very small group of people) produce the wealth of, yes, even the deepest of blue areas. NYC, SF, LA, etc didn't become so wealthy because of their support of gay marriage, the joy they feel when a bunch of immigrants just show up on the curb, campaigning for a carbon tax, picketing for gun-free zones, etc. If you think so, you should be suing the daylights out of your alma-mater, because you graduated completely ignorant of how society works.

Why hasn’t the USA produced a car worth a European buying in the last 10 years?
No wonder your biggest selling vehicle is a pick-up truck.

Well, and I'm not even a huge fan of the cars, but hasn't Tesla been eating Benz, BMW, and Audi's lunch the past couple years? That's all USA right there.
