Is there any hope for this girl? It looked like she was on the comeback trail for a little bit, after relocating back home. But after her 4:12 13th place finish today, it looks like she's headed backwards again. I know everyone has off years, but does anyone honestly think she'll ever be what will all originally predicted she'd pan out to be back in 2013?
I don't know. I'm reserving a sliver of hope. I like the girl and would be psyched if she was able to make a comeback. But her 4:04/WC finalist is still a long way off. And even if she got back to that point, that's still quite a ways off from the top women in the world, even if you remove Dibaba.
Discus.
Mary Cain, going backwards again :/

I don't understand why she ever left whoever coached her in highschool. She was on a great trajectory. Dumb move. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
-
she's been overtraining for a year or more so holding up fairly well considering
-
I dunno, it's just kind of sad how hyped she was two years and how far away that seems now.
Is high school age too early to start predicting sub-3:55 times and gold medals?
It seems like the mental turmoil from not being close to doing what everyone has expected of you or even just replicating what you've already done, would be the hardest part for her.
I'm interested to see how long it'll be before she shuts down this season. -
She just needs to adjust the dosages.

That's a very interesting and creative and novel contribution to the thread. I don't think anybody has really suggested that idea in these forums before. Do you have any other insights? Just a guess, but maybe the wisdom in the the "ain't broke don't fix it" idea, while not widely known, has helped you on your trajectory of success. Thanks for sharing. -
I like her and want her to run fast, or better yet, have a good life and good health, regardless of what we all want to see.
But "again"? not really. The "comeback" races were only marginally better if you use equivalency tables. So there isn't really "news" here- she is not running as fast this year. If you want to make each successive race at the same level of performance a new thread- go for it.
I'm not expecting anything this summer- if she runs low 4's again, it will be next year.

No, I don't think she should switch to discus. That's a bad idea.

I don't know whether she is doping or not but FOR GODS SAKE GET SOME NEW MATERIAL.

In the race today she lost ground throughout the final 400m. No kick. Either she's very overtrained or still pretty badly out of shape. Interestingly, fellow phenom Jessica Judd hardly performed much better (but she may still be recovering from an injury that she had a year and a half ago.

Maybe it's my tv but it looks like she's gained some weight.

It takes time to learn to run with breasts.

Leave her alone she has off races just like everyone don't expect every race to be her a-game.

Seriously, she isn't reacting well to her latest doping program. -

New on Letsrun? -
She just has to lower her arms 2.3 inches and she'll be faster than ever.

She also has an income, an apartment and a boy friend. The apron strings have been untied.
