The same is true of HS football teams in the US. The best teams come from the richest areas but there is plenty of professional talent.
. An inner city school never wins the TX state fooball title but there certainly are plenty of NFLers.

You know nothing, Jon Snow.
You know nothing about international soccer. These were exhibitions, which by definition don't mean anything except to get playing time in. They are treated as such by managers who tinker with new players and lineups. They exist to sell tickets and to get ready for the next "big" tournament or qualifier (in this case for Germany/Dutch, 2016 Euro qualifiers a week later). Yes, I'm happy the US won, but let's not pretend this means a deep World Cup run in 2018 in Rio.
Here's a fact. The US Men's team has played 26 World Cup games since 1990. They have a total of FIVE wins in those 26 games. Want to know how far away the US Mens team is from winning the World Cup? They'd have to win 4 straight games once out of the group stage to win the World Cup.

Running hasn't exactly captivated the public's imagination.
I'm not saying that the US is one of the top 5 teams in the world, but using results dating back to the 90s is asinine. We are MUCH better now than we were then, so it's like comparing us to another country. Making it out of the group stage the last 2 world cups is promising, and I know in 2014 I was getting less of the "soccer is dumb and boring" garbage and more people texting me to figure out when we were getting to the bar to watch games. The popularity is notably different, which will help our international success, but not overnight.
