http://www.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/external/track-field/results/d1/outdoor15/final/007-1_compiled.htmThis time it was a true competition, whereas in the 10000m, Jenkins wasn't going all out and thought Cheserek wouldn't pass him, and so was irritated, but here they both gave it all in the kick (obviously, not working much before that time, of course), and Cheserek used the lead he already had and had just a little more than Jenkins, though if they had been together at the start of that, it would have been tough to call. Jenkins was happy because it was a real race between them at the end and no deals, but 18 pts from the two of them and Geoghegan just back in 4th with a solid kick. Nice job from Kemoy Campbell, coming off injury.

The wind gauges at historic hayward field are full of shit. Daytime wind speeds in Eugene average well over 10mph, i.e. over 4 m/s. It may not register wherever the gauges are, but the wind is always there on the track. Run the backstretch and see for yourself.
Are you bad weatherman too?

Boy, you people for some reason can't just come out admit that Ches>Jenkins... XC, 10K, 5K...end of story! Winning, wins!
Last 400 same as open 800.

VERY NORMAL TO GOOD CONDITIONS IN JUNE.
Every event which has gone around the track has suffered. Chances are your reports of "good" conditions is lacking.
Yea- In June, 75F, low humidity & winds are horrible. It could've been 90F, 70% humidity & 25 mph winds.

at the moment of posting, the wind is still 12mph steady from NNE, which has a north-south component of 11mph, or 4.8 meters per second.
And gusting to 24mph.
I'm not going to harp on this because everyone who's run on that track knows it already. But the gauges are so consistently off that it seems deliberate.

That's probably at the airport or some other location where the anemometer is 10m above the ground and out in the open. The wind speed at the height of the wind gauge at trackside is probably no more than half that, perhaps less than 2.4 m/s. This lines up with the reading for the 200m final.
On really windy days, where the reported wind speed is 20 mph, you're probably only getting about 12 mph of wind at head and chest level and the wind gauge reading will be even less than that, maybe 9 mph or 4 m/s - even less still if the track is in a sheltered area.

Nice. The 1:55.9 was what did it.
About the same as Viren's last 800 in his Munich 10000m WR.
If they were its called "coaching."
Does anyone really think the Oregon coaches should have asked Ches to let Jenkins win? Probably would have been an NCAA violation.
I wanted Jenkins to win; to do so he need to stalk and execute perfectly and go from a distance to take the sting out of Ches's kick.
I think before the race the both knew they would earn national championship rings finishing 1-2.
So it was all joy.
I can tell you we were pretty happy, but no gloating, we were more in awe to see the number of Duck athletes in the finals we saw in our own days... After cheering it was pretty quiet just watching in awe and appreciation at a program that was so down with few high spots for most of 25 years. No real whooping up at the post parties, just lots of smiles. Last year was more exhalting.
Next, I called Chad Noelle ftw to my pals. After seeing him at Stanford, he seemed clearly fit and ready, and he did a great job gunning down the field in the last 200.
Happy for him and his shout out to his mom was well done.
...Daniel Winn would have been the feel good victor if that had happened.
Blake Haney was a crowd pleasing result. The slow start was flashback funny when that would happen all the time.
Hope the ladies can step up today.
Enjoy The Sport.
Still can't believe that piss poor 800. Windy or not the time should've been faster. Never seen a tactical 800 final
In for the women's 1500m.

Price gets it at the line!
No play by play? :-o
I know she got nipped at the line, but I loved that race from Shelby Houlihan and I really wish we could have had a race like that on the men's side.
I'm looking at you, Christian Soratos.

Amen. Heartbreak for us Shelby Houlihan fans, but so proud of her...
O'Conner leading, all the favorites end in there still.
What an incredible race. Houlihann laid it out there.
Steeple has started fast. I think around 9:36 pace for 3 laps.
everyone still in there, UMKC took the lead but O'conner took it back 9:40 pace
