I'm not disagreeing with you. But what does this mean for Jim Ryun? If he were in high school today, would he be running sub 3:52?
No. Timmons would be fired thanks to helicopter parents whining that he is pushing the kids too hard, and not doing enough cross-training.

sorry, you can't even win footlocker with that strategy.

Probably. He was a very special athlete.

Try breaking 4 in a high school race. Only Jim Ryun has ever done it.
Verzbicas did to.
1995
0 high school runners break 9 min for 3200m
2015
50 high school runners break 9 min for 3200m
Unreal!!
This year in D1, 25 people ran 1500 under 3:42. Some of those were freshmen. Having some advanced high school seniors doing it should not be that surprising. We know how to do this now.
More people should be skeptical of the first four hight schoolers to got sub-4.

This is what's really been freaking me out, even more so than the sub 4's. Even back in the previous golden age, around the time I was in hs, sub 9s were pretty rare. That was back when lots of high school boys were running 100 mile weeks and participation rates were pretty high for track - there was no comptetition from soccer back in the day.
Given the recent revelation about Rupp, I have to say I worry about PED s in high school now. If breaking 9 means that maybe you get a free ride to Stanford (and it used to...) which is worth, what?, a quarter million dollars, then there's going to be some people willing to cheat to do it.
For the past 20+ years there has been at least a large handful of HS runners have run 4:0X largely by themselves at state meets and such.
No we are rigging the system, and giving more of these guys the opportunity to run against pros that will drag them to sub 4 performances in optimal situations. 80s and 90s athletes simply didn't have this nationalization of HS sports and few had the opportunities to compete against the best, except for Footlocker, and almost nobody had the opportunity to compete against pros.
Adderall.
Not technically cheating if you have documentation but anyone who has taken it and then run on it knows the difference it can make (and the increased recovery required afterward).
Doctors are handing out stims to high-school and college kids these days like it's opiates to veterans.
Not saying the other points made weren't valid or that this applies directly to Maton or Fisher, but with how easy scripts are to get or just a single dose is to get from a friend before a race, I expect if you tested these kids you'd see pretty high rates of use or abuse.
In reality only one high school student broke four in last month. Maton is a college aged student in high school clothing.
