RIP. Sad indeed.
Just 2 weeks earlier, he was in the news for setting the FKT for a half dome circuit from Happy Isles back to the starting point.

Did that Half-Dome via Snake Dyke back in the '80's, a lot slower but (likely) with a little more halucinogens :)
I sure hope they froze their semen so future generations can benefit from their adventurous spirit.Really, this isn\'t a tragedy. It\'s the inevitable result of enormously risky behavior. If you must feel sad, feel sad for the park rangers who had to scrape the carcasses of these two morons off the rocks.

Can't disagree with this. They participated in a hobby they knew would kill them eventually. Hard to feel bad for them.
So free soloing is the road to riches, but base jumping is too extreme? Who's making these rules?
I like how D.Potter never sold out. He did what he loved. He wasn't doing this to seek sponsors. It was always risky. Just as risky as free soloing.

Scrapping is a fact of high speed crashes into immoveable object. The less protection you have, the greater the physical damage. There is no full body to recover. Only bits and pieces to collect and remove. The park rangers, and police, firefighters and emergency personnel, who deal with this type of accident are personally affected doing this type of work. That is why many of them retire young, or move over to desk jobs.
good article, thanks.
