I've heard that Laramie is a good place to train. How is it compared to Flagstaff, etc.? I'm mostly looking for dirt trails to do 10-20 milers for summer base training. I'm a college runner, and I'm looking to take a job there this summer. Thanks!

Laramie used to be a *GREAT* place to train, plenty of trails, hills etc... running at 7200 ft.. A couple of years ago they closed the trails on the east side of town (land was bought by a different ranching company) closing those trails really sucked...although there is still plenty of trail running in the snowies (30 mi. to the west of town) and up in the Laramie range (5 minute drive east of town).
I left about three years ago, I don't know who's around there now to train with..often some of the CC guys hang around in the summer so you might be able to hook up with them.

Laramie.....My kind of town. Reminds me of Winnemucca, Nevada (where my dad was born and where I still have relatives and have done a lot of training.)
Young fellow I advise you to take a look at Winnemucca, Nevada and also Eureka Nevada. Great places with friendly locals and tons of dirt roads around. Enjoy....

Nevada in the summer? Yikes.
Go there first!
I hate the place. The wind is always in your face, I don't know how.
I hope that you are not gay and found out in the desert tied to a fence and beaten to death. (Movie Laramie Project)Be careful there! I was running on one of the main streets (I was only passing through on my way to the West Coast) and three guys in a big ass pick up flew by me and threw some bottles and then yelled "we're gonna kill you." I threw in a surge and cut my run short!
There is something weird going on in that town. A friend of mine was killed in an auto accident there last month. He was a student at Wyoming Tech and when his parents went out there to get his car and stuff, they found no article of the wreck in any newspaper and nothing in print at the school of their son's death. The locals think they got a Pleasantville there. They try to hide anything negative.
As mentioned ... Windy
Lots of 'necks in pickups
The university has a dirt track which is ok if you are looking for a soft surface to do workouts. I think the high school has a all weather track. The town is also small but its a college town with lots of cowboys running around. Like the last post it is windy most of the time. But overall a nice place to train and to stay focused.
Cheers
Nevada is a very large state with a diversity of climates.
Up north in Winnemucca during the summer it is cool in the morning, hot in the day and mild in the evening. Lovelock and Reno are similar.
In the Cental high plateau (Austin, Eureka and Ely) it is cool during the summer all day long. Great for training. Eureka, Nevada, is one of the most beautiful small towns in the USA. The local government, supported by the mining industry in Eureka county, keeps that "old west" feeling beautifully restored and preserved in Eureka (at 6400 feet alt.). There is a hard all weather track at the HS and also a heated indoor swimming pool.
Southern Nevada such as Las Vegas is difficult to train in during the summer because of the heat. When I lived in Las Vegas I would often do long runs and bike rides about 11pm or so. I can remember doing a 24 mile run at MIDNIGHT, 90 degrees running about 5;45 per mile. That was great!

I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
