So my situation at the moment is quite simple. Over cross country indoor, and outdoor, the WHOLE team ran solely low mileage (40 in the summer). I had run a decent amount more mileage before getting onto the team (father introduced me to running and I fell in love with it) I was able to go fairly easy on my own from playing soccer to running between 45-60 mpw from March 2014 to August 2014. As a mediocre talent from the start (never fast on the soccer team, technical not fast) I did not expect much as far as being great but I enjoyed what I was doing and it positively influenced my life.
Starting in late August when I had to begin to train with the XC team instead of alone, my mileage was cut drastically. The coach appeared to have some T&F knowledge, he was very young and had run 9:40 in the 2 mile in high school as well as being the coach of a very promising miler. This miler however appeared to be one of the people who could run something such as 4:30 off of an hour on the elliptical. All we did during cross country was the occasional slow distance run, easy runs and 400's at goal mile with occasional 6x800 at 5k (workouts were 3-4 times a week). I believe it is safe to say that this was not optimal coaching and quite frankly I believe I could have done better myself.
Going into indoor and outdoor, the same thing occurred except with even further reduced mileage and added speed-work such as 200s at goal 800 pace (I prefer longer distances, I do not enjoy whatsoever any event shorter than the two mile).
Does anyone have any ideas regarding what I should do going forward, as I know many of you are experienced with high school track and may have had the displeasure of being (somewhat) in these shoes.
