Garrett's injury is a perfect illustration of Castagnos training methods. Take high school kids and train them as if they were pros and run them into the ground for your own benefit. That guy is a classless jerk who steals kids from public and other schools with scholarship offers and god knows what else. Nothing wrong with the kids, just the guy who is coaching them.

Hally and Steinhoff hook up with a program using modern training techniques they could be up there next year. Something to think about. Just sayin'.

No offense, but I've never heard of this coach or school or any successful Delaware runners. I've definitely heard of plenty from Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania though.

Yeah he's a super guy. Poaches runners every year from other programs and recruits as hard as you can. Runs his kids into the ground all for the program. And exactly what map is Delaware distance running on? Who cares about girls, seriously.

Hmm, fair enough comments. Delaware isn't quite "on the map" as I'd previously stated. However, Pat and Tatnall's success did lead the way toward drastic improvement in Delaware prep running...regardless of your claims of "poaching."

Spend enough time around the DE high school scene and you'll hear countless other coaches - grown men and women, don't forget that - taking pot shots at Pat and Tatnall, and relishing in any of their shortcomings. Meanwhile Pat has nothing but nice things to say about everyone else, and if he does he seems to keep it to himself. I think that says enough.

But hey, back to the actual topic! Heck yea, it's great to see these kind of times coming out of one county in the second smallest state in the country. Not to mention Jarod Wilson and his ridiculous 800 split. This is definitely a good year for DE HS boys track.

I'd really like to see Wilson go for that 800 record that has seemed so untouchable for years and years. Maybe one of his teammates could take him through 400 at states?

3 years in a row Tatnall's top runner was injured for his senior year outdoor season. giacco, hagood, and now garrett.

if you ever took the time to get to know him, you would find that he has good intentions and cares deeply about his runners. he's a great coach and doing good things for the sport in delaware.

I would enjoy seeing a record attempt like that but unlikely imo. Performance lists are up and Jarod is seeded at his only open 8 mark of the season - 2:01.

Top seed is Kieran Tuntivate, maybe he will take it out hard

Ok kid. Listen when you grow up and you can view his "program" objectively, you'll find that he's a self serving egomaniac who cares deeply about no one other than himself. He's a great coach because he recruits the best runners into his program. You know that he does this, right? His intentions are self serving only. It's not hard to field a good team when you lure all of the best kids with a privates school education. Saying that he doesn't recruit is like saying that Oak Hill Academy in basketball doesn't recruit and really cares about their kids. You're a foolish, naive little child and have a lot of growing up to do.

It's funny that you take shots at Steinhoff and Hally's coach, who has 5 kids under 4:30 this year. 4:14, 4:26, 4:27, 4:27, 4:29. Pretty solid if you ask me. It's like calling Mark Wetmore outdated and his training techniques don't work. Fads will come and go. Staying healthy with consistent training is the only way to get faster....NOT beating kids up season after season.

Castagno has produced an NCAA national champion and that being said I think Delaware is holding their own. Delaware is 1/5 the size of MD and 1/10 the size of Jersey and PA. The past 5 years we've had 1 national champion in one of the distance events outdoor.

Marquis Dendy is also a multi-time NCAA champ so chalk him up for little Delaware.

For it's size, DE ain't half bad.

For a small state, there have been a number of Olympians and World Championship qualifiers. Dendy made the last world team and had one if, if not the, longest jump in the world one year. I believe he was out just past 27 feet. Also a few years ago DE had the fastest XC 5k by a girl (Julie Macedo) in 16:53. Not sure what happened to her. She's not listed on college roster this year...
