Try to keep it up for about five days. You will l lose a lot of weight and feel much lighter on your feet. . V02 will skyrocket and we all know how important that is.
I ran a lot while fasting. Your body has way more energy storage capacity than the gels very 10 minutes crowd believes.
You never ran very fast though.
All that matters is that I ran much faster than I ever had before and I was old at the time.
Maybe you could break 20 if you try this.
I tried fisting for the first time in February.
Honestly I didn't feel that great at first but after I got used to it I actually felt great after the initial shock. I was a little sore afterwards so I didn't push it on my workouts for the first 5 or so days. After a week I was back to normal and I've tried it several more times since. Definitely recommend it to any runners.

Thanks, but this is a website for competitive runners not old fitness weight watchers. Glad it worked for you to get under 20, but don't bother preaching to actual runners.
How much did you run in that time period?
I think I'll probably do an easy 3 miles this evening and then it might be wise to break my fast - so in total, around a ~70-72 hour fast. I do notice that I feel slightly less mental clarity.

Why are you here then?
So my last meal was Sunday night. I haven't been running much but doing a little bit of stuff.
Monday - AM: 3 miles + strides PM: 3-3.5 miles (felt pretty good on this run)
Tuesday - AM: 5 miles (legs felt heavy/slow)
Wednesday - AM: 5 miles, felt light/good on my legs but depleted
I think this Wednesday PM I will do another 3 miles... and then it might be a good idea to break my fast.
The thought of food is really not very appealing at this point though...
Lost 5 pounds in 3 days

You just won this thread
According to every mainstream doctor and dietitian if you go for more than about 2 or 3 hours without eating you face serious risks to health and you might even die.

I've been curious about the health benefits of fasting.. I've done some 24 hour fasts before and have currently been fasting around 36 hours. I feel like it also makes me more mindful and conscious of food. I have a bit of weight to lose but that isn't the first goal with fasting, but it does make me more conscious of food.
Has anyone tried extended day fasts? I will probably break my fast today as I plan on going for a run as well and I know running + fasting can be a bad idea (but these runs are short and easy).
What kind of fasting?
Water or juice?
Fresh squeezed juice?
I assume you are doing water. Tried it when I was a puppy, all it really does is make you lose some weight for a short period, and then when you start eating again your body strives to replace that weight.
Lose weight the way you put it on, slowly. Move to a healthier diet, smaller portions, self discipline.
As far as raw veggie and fruit juice fasts... Those can be okay. Plenty of info on the web about them.
Good Luck!
Fasting worked for Nolan Shaheed. Six meals a week and a big pile of age group records.
This is a water fast.
So I'm actually feeling fine (except that depleted feeling during today's morning run).
Instead of running 3 miles this evening and breaking fast, any thoughts on trying to fast another day or two?
I got gastroenteritis last summer and didn't eat for a week. I didn't run during that time, but my first run back I felt pretty good; wouldn't have been able to do anything hard though.
Skipping my evening run but think I will try fasting through today and into tomorrow and see how that goes.
Honestly I don't feel bad - I feel the slightest of hunger, the type you might feel during a typical day. And I'm going about all my activities and work just fine.
I'm starting to realize how I eat because of boredom sometimes... for example, the evenings feel like a big void with no eating dinner, etc. This is making me much more mindful of how I eat, and how I often eat when I'm not hungry.
My sister is big into this kind of stuff and she got me to try a fast. I didn't really buy into it but I just wanted to see if I could do it as a challenge and to what might actually happen . It was water and some vitamins that she got from her chiropractor. I did it for 5 days. I can't recall if it was supposed to be a 7 day fast and I just threw in the towel or if I actually made it through a 5 day fast. Was okay for about a day, then just hungry all the time after that. No running. Didn't notice any changes in thinking, energy, etc., just that I was hungry and couldn't wait for it to be over - exactly what I was expecting to happen. My guess is that there's a placebo effect going on - if you think the fast will work it probably will and if you don't it probably won't. I don't really see how it could possibly help you physiologically - all I hear are just some vague "clean out your system" type statements from proponents that aren't very persuasive.
